I've never really had one....but I found a few.

And my search for "whatever" is over, has been over. I'm not even that curious anymore.

It has been my good luck to have owned and ridden some nice bikes. As my mileage ticked up, other than sentimental value or artistic appreciation, I've come to value bikes that do what the builder intended. I doubt that has changed that much over time; bikes and components just got better. So, I have them, and doubt I'll have any more.

1. Wraith Hustle
2. Cipollini Logos

Everything else is pretty good, but these are the best I've ridden. I am no longer interested in better.

Had to look that one up, but they look very tidy and well-built. Got a photo of your Hustle to share?

My top three have and probably will continue to change as the years go on. I've only been cycling for a decade and my tastes have evolved (and in some cases devolved) dramatically already. Just when I was deep into 1950s British bikes with fancy lugs and finally began acquiring some of that stuff, my lust for lugs became overpowered by a sense that I was missing out on more modern technology that would make my riding experience more rewarding. So now I'm back to staring at completely different bikes...

I’ve got a new project in the works. They all feel grail-like when they’re new projects.

Jack Taylor Rough Stuff

Or at least a copy of one.

If I'm going to get into frame building, I might as build something I can't buy.

Same here. If I can't get my hands dirty restoring a bike, it's not that interesting.

It took me almost 25 years to find this in my size and that includes goingto Italy back in the 90's to find the frame shop out of business. I found this 3 hours from my house 20 years later.

I tend to like bikes not so much for racing pedigree but everyday usability and attractive design. Sacrilege? Ya.
Grail bike:

Also Japanese dreams:

Also one of these, the frame is chromoly and really nice. Would modify it of course:

I was immediately sucked into that picture, and the Bianchi was about 9th on reasons why.
Looks like yo-yos in in behind glass, then tops in packaging in the top left of the pic.

rogertc1 there is so much info to process in the pic and all of it is fascinating. Is the wallpaper made up of raccoons, mice, and koalas holding onto bamboo? Also, I didnt see the gun hanging with the bike until a couple minutes into looking, then laughed at how obvious it is for me to overlook.

Nice bike, to be clear.

Grail is a state of mind.
Since I lost mine,
I just enjoy any great ride.

Maybe grail is = Inspiration and the ability to keep on giving would seem essential.
Oh, and with nice accessories.

you can leave your hat on.....

Oh, and I love really old thread revivals.
@northbend has subsequently acquired his classic custom new bike.

I am fortunate to have all my grail bikes. Here they are in order of acquisition. All three have been repainted by Ed Litton

1982ish Ron Cooper. As pictured, it's running Campy 10sp triple. It is currently set up as an Eroica-compliant 7sp.

1978 Eisentraut "A". I have since put fenders on it to be my wet road bike.

1965ish Cinelli Speciale Corsa

Hmmm.... for some reason I really want an old path race, something like the Gov'nor, Low, stretched out, looking fast just sitting there kind of bike.

And something from the master himself, David Kirk.

And any bike that's been blessed by the true champ Greg Lemond's sweat!

that Cinelli turned out well, as I recall you were thinking hard as the finish was just beyond acceptable. You built it up to confirm the ride first? ( compare to the off the 3 list other Cinelli )
the Eisentraut is A handsome bike too, pun intended.

After all that hunting, 'tis a shame you could only find the long-wheelbase version. I hear the one with the short wheelbase is a rear scorcher!

Big hooray for another reanimated zombie thread!

Ya know, a parent should never be asked to pick their most favorite children. So I'm participating under protest.

If I limit it to grail bikes that are built vintage, I'll have to go with.......

1. '72 Hetchins Italia

2. '81 JP Weigle

3. '82 Columbine
