I'm left-footed, but I see that most of my riding mates are right-footed. Weird.
I tried right footed one time cuz I noticed that my neoprene covers were wearing unevenly more on the left than right. The result was that I fell flat on my left side. Never did that again.

I've always mounted the bike from the left so it has seemed natural to put my left foot down at a stop. However, I appreciate the idea of right foot down to stay further from traffic. Once on a tour a gout attack forced me to keep my left shoe cleated to the pedal so it was right foot down at stops and when I was fiddling to get my sore and swollen foot into my shoe. Awkward.

Both, if it's a long wait at a red light at a busy intersection. Otherwise, either, I guess. I've never really thought about this before. I've only ever used platform pedals; maybe that's why.

Nope. If you put the left leg down, the right leg goes closer to the drivetrain. Right leg down moves the leg away from the drivetrain.

I track stand or I put my right foot down. I also don't use clipless pedals so falling over isn't an issue for me.
