Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I would bet a medium about of money that frame failure is one of the lowest frequency ways that people get hurt riding a bicycle, no matter what frame material is used.

Maybe it's best if you forget about riding a bicycle. It's clearly not something you're comfortable with.

Most likely...They won't. CF is not a new mystery material. It has been proven millions of times at the highest levels of performance in aerospace, motorsport...and cycling.

The article you linked doesn't prove the point you're trying to make. The Spec forks didn't fail catastrophically, and cause serious injuries or death. There were 2 issues - with 1 causing a minor injury - and Spec chose to recall all 12,000 that had been sold. That's what responsible manufacturers do. What that tells me is to buy from a responsible manufacturer.

As I said before...Failure of a frame, or any other component, is one of the least-likely ways you will get injured on a bicycle. No matter what it's made of.

I like to ride, I'm very comfortable with steel and aluminum bikes. I'm not comfortable with CF though I want a CF Bike. Maybe the frame will not fail, but the CF handlebars, wheels, or most likely the CF fork will fail. I don't see a point getting a CF frame with the rest of components being aluminum. I'd like it to be either all CF or all aluminum. I got the answers I wanted from this thread and made my decision to go with aluminum for my purposes. I see that 99% on here have faith in CF. I'll get back into this hobby with a cheap aluminum bike, and if I'm really into it down the line, I'll purchase a quality CF bike, from a manufacturer like Specialized or Trek, who are trusted for quality CF. Oh wait, didn't Specialized recall 12,000 CF forks? https://www.velonews.com/gear/specia...f-12000-forks/
Almost every bike made in the last few decades has a carbon fork. Aluminum frames, steel frames, ti frames, they all have carbon forks. If it was half as likely as you say, we would never hear about cyclists getting hit by cars because we'd be all dying in catastrophic fork asplosions all day every day.

Why do you think the Great Fork Armageddon isn't happening? Or is the media just covering it up?

On the off chance somebody open minded is reading this thread wondering if CF is safe to ride or not, I hope logic has prevailed.

Looks like BigBike got the OP's links' post deleted. It's only fair since BigInternet has unfairly targeted CF.

While not specifically horror stories, people posting pictures of their scratched CF frames asking if they are safe, get so many regurgitated responses that people think their bike is going to fold under the weight of a water bottle. I'm glad I grew up in the 70s before the internet or I would be scared of everything.

Discussion forums like this aren’t required to be “fair” or allow for users to post anything they want. We are participating in this forum because someone has created for us to use. We have the choice to play by their rules, or leave (voluntarily, or not).

Only the US government (and perhaps some other governments) is prohibited from infringing on freedom of speech and expression. Private people can do whatever they want, for the most part, to regulate speech within the confines of their homes and places of business including social media sites.

You summarized the situation neatly in post #104, above. We will grant you that freedom of speech, you have every right to have your fears and to hold your position. All that is fine, and all that is already widely known and accepted wisdom by the cycling community.

The fact of the matter is you've said your piece, in a very dramatic way, and now it's time to let it go. You're bordering on the edge of disruption. What more can you add without beating the dead horse, especially when it has become obvious you're swimming against the tide. You're a lone salmon swimming upstream hoping to arrive at a place where you can spread your nuggets of wisdom and they can flourish. From experience I can tell you that place is very unlikely to be here. You're not going to get anybody to "rethink" their choice of CF. Spare us the videos and spare us the links, this forum has been down that road many, many times before. You're free to express an opposing opinion anywhere on these forums as long as you are not being disruptive. Spare us the dated multimedia.

Thanks! Any further dispute please PM me.

You got moderated by a moderator simply doing his job.
If you are or were ever serious about your posts/sentiments you should just accept it as a normal occurrence on an Internet forum and move on to the next topic on these great forums.

Not horror stories so much, but there are plenty of examples of worried posts about minor scratches or dents on carbon parts on this forum.
