Blue Moon bikes in Sycamore IL.
I just bought a Triumph bike at Blue Moon. Cool shop with a huge Schwinn collection.
I watched the Capt as a child.
The second floor is all vintage Schwinn. Below is Cindy Crawford's Letour!

I've driven through there a couple of times heading from O'Hare to my sister's place further west, and it looks like the kind of town that might have a shop like that.

Sycamore is just on the north side of Dekalb, IL, or just west-ish of the Chicago metro area (I had to check google maps...)
Sounds interesting! There's a trail that runs through Dekalb to the Fox river in the Chicago area too, based on riding with a friend many years ago (so things could have changed since then).
That LeTour is intriguing, partly because of the Cindy Crawford link, but also for being a mixte sort of frame. I didn't know those were offered.

I rode to Wisconsin a couple of years ago from Peoria, might have to see if I can use the fox river trail next time.

Really cool. There are no independent shops close to me anymore. All are Trek or Specialized only shops. Most of the employees are nice and love bikes. When I ride there for small stuff on a steel bike and look at $8500+, battery operated bikes, it makes me realize what wierdo I must look like to them!

I stopped into the Bushwhacker shop (where Russell's son works, or worked) recently to check on some spd shoes I'd ordered. I was on the return leg of a ride, riding my Raleigh International and wearing some vintage leather shoes, complete with perforated uppers (as in this photo)...
On the first visit to check on the shoes, no one even commented on the bike.
On the second visit (the shoes were taking a long time to show up), someone did eventually notice the bike and comment. Do chromed Nervex lugs show up every day, or did they just think it was some old crusty Schwinn Varsity?
Or are they just focused on their work and not picking up on the unusual stuff around them?
Beats me.

Thank you for posting those pictures. Growing up, we had a bike shop not far from my house that was a Schwinn dealer. In the 1980s, they started branching out more into exercise equipment to supplement the bikes. For many years it had a mint Black Phantom in its window as a display item. I have no clue what happened to it when they closed. The Phantom was an impressive bike and occupied the upper floor window there.
Until about a year ago, we had no more independent bike shops (at least the traditional kind) near me. A one-man shop, which is kind of a boutique thing, opened up the road from me about a year ago. It's all e-bikes and mountain type bikes (increasingly e-bike heavy). I hope it is able to survive and sell at least some regular bikes, but the history for bike shops around here has not been good in the past 20 years.

just experimenting here but I will eventually be riding this a lot I think. Someone had a 26.8 seat post tightened real tight in it. Fortunately it opened back up. I have been fortunate to ride many nice 531 frames and the last couple of years and honestly I don't feel a huge difference in most of them but this one is pretty darn good.

She used to tour with me but nowadays it's car tent camping with lots of hiking involved. She can usually outhike me if she wants but is kind. I can outride her but usually bike riding together involves a restaurant or grocery or going to friends houses. Really and truly I am the luckiest guy I know.
