I always been of the opinion that Campagnolo reluctantly gave in to pleading from the consumers/shops/bicycle manufacturers and provided triples. Regardless, my only triples are on my ATBs and none of those are Campag, so no pics.

they are threaded, and are the same bolt pattern as the super small (24t, 28t) innermost rings of two of the other cranksets.

I get that, but that is an original triple with the short flutes for the factory holes, should have been left alone imho, may or may not be weaker now as well.

Now I don't have to walk up the mountain of which I am king.

The best part is the bike actually ended up a little lighter with these components than it was with the double. Take that weight weenies!

Dang, 21.2 lb?!? That is incredibly light given the components (triple crank, long cage RD) and capability (summiting Everest). How is the Syncro (or Syncro II) working out for you?

I kept this a true "racing triple" -- 52-42-32x12-26 -- so I, at least, will not be summiting Everest with it. Anything paved up to about 10% grade and I'm good though.

I've only used the current set up for around 18 miles, but it's working great. The shifters are Syncro II Veloce 8-speed. Did I mention that I'm using a Shimano rear hub and a SRAM cassette with this? So in theory the spacing is off by 0.2 mm. I biased the shifting toward the big cogs, so they're working excellently. On the stand the smaller cogs worked pretty well too but there was sometimes a bit of a hiccup on the transition from the smallest cog to the next smallest. I didn't have occasion to try that on the road, and rarely will. On the road I didn't have a single hitch. I expect that with a properly spaced cassette it would be perfect across the range. I also have a theory that I could switch the indexing gear and run this 9- or 10-speed. I don't have any plans to test that, but if another set of these shifters fell into my lap I might try it.

Since I'm talking about my experiences with Syncro shifting on this bike, let me say that it came to me with first generation Syncro shifters (the ones with the extra lever to put them in friction mode), what I believe is a first generation C Record rear derailleur, a 6-speed SunTour freewheel, and (I think) a Sedis chain (says "PG" and "France" on the links). The clicks on that setup were a bit mushy, but the indexing was great. I rarely use friction shifting, so if the lever wasn't picking the right spot for me I'd notice. Again, it was a small sample size (20 miles) but I thought it was great. I have a suspicion that Syncro gets a bad rap because many people weren't aware that they needed to use Campy's secret decoder tables to select from among the seven different indexing gears to make it work. Or maybe some of the combinations just didn't work as well as others, but as I recall the tables want to know not just which derailleur you're using but also freewheel and chain.

Great to hear! I have a tired C-Record Chorus groupset with Syncro II that I had to do a lot of work to de-gunk, clean, polish, and readjust. I sold the Monoplanars that came with it and am not super sad about that. The brake levers have no hoods now as they were toast when I got them. Still, I should put a bike together with them and test them out. I had to dig out the petrified grease and dirt from within the indexed shifter (ok, both, but the right shifter had more nooks and crannies), but I was successful and put new used G-springs in and mounted it on a frame to test the indexing. Indexes very well. Sure, Shimano's lever angle change from cog to cog is a lot more consistent, but the Campy unit gives positive shifts. No telling yet how it does when hooked up to the A/B slant parallelogram position Chorus RD. Actually yes, I know just the frame I'd build up (and likely sell to make more space) and have go to a new home...

I disagree. Sram hasn't supplied road triples for many years. Shimano never made triples with modern 11 speed systems, but you can get lower range triples still. Only Campagnolo made lightweight triples for 11 speed systems.

Hello All, I want to replace my 30T chainring , on my Campy triple , with a Sugino 28T 74mm BCD. Question, for those who may have tried it, is there any shifting issues , with the FD picking up the 28T to the 42T (My setup is 30/42/52) ? Thank you. KB
