Need a longer rear axle and cones for a 79 Raleigh Competition GS

Before I order something, I though I would ask.

I am going from 120mm rear to 126mm rear and would like a new axle. 6mm longer than the factory axle.

One rear cone is pitted, so I might as well replace them all back and front, but have no clue where to source them.

Thanks

What hubs? I am only familiar with earlier Competitions that I seem to remember had Normandy hubs. I upgraded the Normandy hubs on my Peugeot UO8 with cones for Campagnolo hubs. The cones you need to look for will depend on the hubs that were used to build your wheels. Of course, you will also have to redish your wheels when you go from 120 to 126 spacing

The hubs are factory Campagnolo Gran Sport small flange.

Look for a donor hub or parts on Flea Bay; right now there are a couple in the cue. Smiles, MH

IIRC the GS version speced Campy Gran Sport hubs. So the rear hub would use a 9.5mm by 26TPI axle. Unless the wheels are not stock or "specifications may have been changed". Wheels Manufacturing makes a range of axles and they are available on line and at better bike shops. Andy

Campagnolo rear hub axles are 10mm x 26tpi thread. Wheels Mfg offers replacement axles in this thread spec. in 141mm length for 130mm OLD spacing. You'd need to trim the axle a bit for 126mm OLD spacing, but that's a couple minutes work with a hacksaw.

How long is your original axle? I went from 5 speeds to 7 on the rear of mine years ago and used the same axle. I only needed to add a spacer to get the freewheel clearance from stay or dropout. My axle measures 133.something mm.

Take your axle and cones to your local bike shop and tell them what you want. If it isn't in stock they should be able to order a replacement from QBP and get it in a day or so.
