Unbelievably, today was an even nicer day than yesterday - again sunny but warmer - upper 50's.
Rode the same 20 mile suburban/rural roads as Saturday, starting from home. Like yesterday, averaged 16 mph. That's pretty fast for me for March. Hit the 400 mile mark for 2012 - that is considerably farther along than usual.

What a perfect morning for a ride! Bright sun, 63*, just a light breeze. I did what I call the First Half of the Tour De Kimball's ride. Sometime in the summer we will ride to a great ice cream place called Kimball's, and this loop is the beginning & the end tied together.

It's sap season.

Just an absolute perfect day for a my 30 mile daily ride. Temps started off in the low-mid 70's with a nice breeze and ended up with 81º temps with some pretty strong headwinds by the end of the ride.

Almost didn't make the ride today as we woke up with no water in the house. Thought I was going to have to wait all day to have it fixed. Went and checked the pump motor and had power to the relay and the contacts were closed, but the motor wasn't running. Called my well man, who is also a neighbor, and we found a damn bug fried in between the lower relay contacts that I couldn't see. Sure glad I didn't have to replace the motor since we just replaced the tank a month or so ago.

With Daylight Time came the first weekly after-work club ride of year. Three of last year's newbies had me working hard to hang on.

Suppose to have been a 45 mile, team training ride for the MS 150 coming up next month. Only one team mate showed up so we did a very brisk paced 24 mile ride into some very strong headwinds. Perfect weather for it, too.

First evening bike shop group ride. Hung with the pack the first several miles until the pace quickened and I needed to back off on the climb. Anyway it was a good quick workout of 22.5 miles. I need better conditioning to hang though.

Today I had to chose between a ride and a massage. Even on the bent my neck and back are getting sore

The massage wins today, but I really need it. I need fresh legs for the metric century rando this weekend.

Can't compete with those pictures and the food looks really delicious. I had a great ride and an unexpected south headwind on the return leg. It was raining in the AM, and as late as 12:30, but the sun came out and dried things up. All in all it was a good day to ride.

Got in a 36 mile ride on the Lake Okeechobee trail yesterday. Rode out into the headwind 18, turned around, got about 6 miles back and the wind turned on me. Headwind the rest of the way in. Got a couple of photos.

Rode 11.5 miles today. First time in 2 weeks since the sciatica started up. What was weird was I was real wobbly getting on the bike. Even though I am right handed and favor my right leg, I've always started with the left leg. I'm not sure if it's apprehension, or I need to see the doc, but the left leg seemed to give a bit. Standing up to cycle was weird too. It was like I couldn't get a rhythm and the leg was giving. I did take one 5/500 Vicodin and a 500mg tylenol at 5 am, but if it were the meds, I would think it would be equal, not one sided. Maybe I need to see the doc again...it's weird and a bit disconcerting.

10 lazy miles, awaiting my first Populaire on Saturday.

I'd rather deal with alligators than have to negotiate the McDonalds on Hurstbourne Lane. Scares the bajingo out of me every time I do it.

Vicodin and many other pain killers can do that to your balance. I had to stop going over a narrow place on a bridge, I just could not do it. Later off the pills the balance came right back. And I went back to crossing the old bridge.

It was almost 80º here today under bright skies. After hitting the gym this morning, I got out on the bike this afternoon during my daughter's gymnastics practice. I rode from the gym to the top of a local climb not far away. This hill is never easy but my condition is just not there to keep my HR where I'd like it. But it was a good workout. It was actually got quite hot on the climb too.

Today I went on my FIRST bike ride since August 17, 2012. On that day I did something stupid, crashed the bike, broke my left hand in three places, and hurt my shoulder. I had surgery a few days after the crash to insert 3 pins in my hand. Seven weeks later the pins were removed. Between the time of the first surgery and second surgery I had pretty intensive physical therapy. After the second surgery I continued with physical therapy for several more weeks. Obviously I couldn't ride during that time. By the time I could have ridden it was October and was too cold for me. My hand still hasn't completely gone back to normal but I suppose being 60 years old has something to do with it.

My first bike ride went well. I only rode two miles but I had to test out the hand and shoulder. The hand was fine, no pain or problems. My shoulder was a little tender. I couldn't ride any longer because it got dark. I think the spin classes I've been attending twice a week since January have been very therapeutic. I don't know how much riding I'll get in for a while. Although it was 70 degrees today, March in Minnesota usually means blizzards or tons of snow. I think we are going to have to "pay" for this weather somehow.

But I can't wait to get out there and ride some distance. I still plan on riding the MS150.

Yesterday: 20 miles total in my Bike Commuter role. Wore shorts on the ride home.
Today: 9 mile ride after work. Record-setting warmth today.
Question: If it is 80 degrees in mid-March, will it be 120 degrees in July? Holy Cow!
