Lousy Sleep After a Good Ride?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Lousy Sleep After a Good Ride?

Does anybody else typically not get a good night's sleep after a 50 mile+ ride? I always ride in the morning if that makes any difference.

I've seen many threads like this through out the years, your not alone. I sleep like a baby regardless of distance, only eating to much before I sleep keeps me up it seems.

I had sleep issues until I started cycling. I don't sleep well on days off but on ride days I go to sleep quickly and sleep soundly.

I've been getting really bad leg cramps after long rides. I finally found a cure by drinking salt water before I go to bed.

I'm usually more of an afternoon/evening rider, and sleep well after riding. It can just knock me out.

This. If I ride before bed and only chug down some coco milk, I sleep like a baby; steak dinner, not so much.

I have the same problem. I usually ride around 5:00 am. This summer I joined a group ride that starts at 5:45 pm for a 20-25 mile jaunt with lots of hills. While I'll be tired by the time I go to bed, I don't sleep well and am frequently tired the next day. I chalked it up to my body dealing with a change to my habits. Even with this slight problem, I enjoyed the group rides and am hoping they begin in the spring.

I sleep like a baby. I do get woken up when I end up on my back and start to snore. Wake up, you're snoring. Huh, what? Oh, ok.

Were you hitting stimulants of any kind during your ride? They seem to stuff them into anything fitness related lately.

What is a not good nights sleep? Difficulty getting to bed or waking up or just waking up not refreshed. Sorry to hear that though- I sleep like an absolute baby after a ride and it feels great, especially the next morning.

Sometimes, after a truly epic ride, my quads will ache. Not cramps, but just a good post-workout soreness and that can keep me up.

I usually eat Cliff Shots with caffeine but only in the morning. I don't have this problem if I ride under 50 miles but when I ride farther my body is tired but I'm not sleepy. Apparently this isn't common so I'll get used to it.

No probs sleeping after a big ride; it's the night before that I have problems. Just too excited I guess ...
