Got me wondering about the value of test rides. Are they really that valuable? I don't buy bikes very often but I would be very hesitant to try to put a bike I didn't own and wasn't familiar with though the paces on streets near a bike shop. What does it really prove gingerly riding it for 10 minutes? If you're in the market for something really high end you probably should know what to expect anyway. My last bike was mail ordered and it worked out fine--no need to test ride it beforehand.

Some idea on how the bike rides is better than none. Besides, if car manufactures figured out how to do it, why can't bike stores. Also, keep in mind that that's there one true selling advantage.
