Handlebar TapPeugeot U-08

Hi,

If any of you remember my last couple threads, I actually discovered that I have a 1974 (most likely based on the serial #) U 08 not a PX-10.

Anyway, I need new handlebar tape and I would like to keep it original as possible, both for the sake of keeping things consistent and because of the fact that it works well and has a good feel to it.

I will try to upload some pictures of the tape to see if anyone can identify a similar kind. For those already familiar with it, where can you direct me to look for this?

Thanks

Don't know if '74 was the same but my UO-8, which I think is '72, had black plastic tape.

For what it's worth...

If that's the grained black plastic tape (as found on my UE8 -see below), I believe it was intended to simulate the look of cloth tape.

So why not use cloth tape?
It's very authentic and it FEELS better - but if you prefer the water-repellent feel instead, you can easily add a couple of coats of clear shellac after you wrap it.

French Tressostar cloth tape is available in black is widely available.

The fellow who sold it to me bought it while he was in the service and brought it back from W Germany. I am pretty confident he never changed a thing.

PS - Bikemanbob has the identical bike in blue, purchased from another former serviceman.
