My Favorite Bike Commuting Clothing Store

By far, my favorite store for bike commuting clothing is Savers. Today was a "50% Off" day, so I picked up three Merino wool layers for about $15. I'm cool with that.

Thanks. I especially appreciate Savers after visiting bike/outdoor stores and seeing the pricing on their cyclist gear.

Wow they look nice too. Yeah cycling specific stuff is usually insanely expensive. Some of the British online stores have some pretty cheap windproof cycling jackets for 20-30 bucks I think I'm going to pick up.

Huh, just looked Savers up...never heard of it till now. There's a couple fairly close to me, going to check it out. I could use some wool sweaters...

You can find some good deals on cycling specific clothes if you look/shop sales. Still might be able to find Cannondale clothing for cheap - their parent company bought out Sugoi. My shop has been selling all CDale branded clothing at half off.
I don't have commuting specific clothes - I just buy stuff I would wear when either commuting, mountain biking, or road biking - so that's mostly lycra and such.

I never find anything good around here. I go into thrift stores and everything, and all I find is ratty crap. I've never found a single piece of wool anything at any of them around here.

Savers, Goodwill, Salvation Army and a few others. The problem is finding the best deals is a matter of luck. You have to be there. To do that you have to spend too much time shopping in the thrift stores. I used to spend more time shopping in the thrift stores. Still shop in thrift stores occasionally.

Nowadays I can afford to buy more stuff new. So I do. I do donate to the thrift stores though. I think of them as recycling centers. Instead of throwing used items away, charities redistribute them to people who need them for a discount.

Nice sweaters at an untouchable price. Never heard of Savers Thrift Store before. Looked it up and there appear to be none in New Jersey. Closest two are in Long Island and too far to be worth it. I have been in Salvation Army at a few locations. Its very rare to get something decent there. Always a crap shoot and I usually roll 7 or 11. There are some deals out there for new. Earlier this year, I bought Lusso bib tights for around $50 or so:

Lusso Max Repel Bibtights (No Pad) - Bib Tights, Longs & Trousers - Ribble Cycles

They are good and are warm. Also got some decent deals on Pearl Izumi gloves and elite thermal long sleeve jersey recently at performancebike.com. REI also carries PI (bought their knee covers from there).

Never knew about them, but I went by the Dublin store today and picked up a nice quarter zip Marino wool shirt, a couple of woven poly shirts and a nice pair of poly/nylon shorts that still had the new tags on them. Thanks for the heads up on this place!
