I too would love to know if something like this works. I like to have music but down want to sacrifice the safety of hearing cars around me. I also get a lot of wind noise even using the smallest ear piece and pushing it clear into my ear. About the only time I use headphones is when I'm out on the hi-way. I figure by the time I hear anything, it's going to be too late anyway. Oh and did I mention the wind noise;-)

I just use bose ie2 ear buds. They do not silence background noise and they WILL NOT fall out. I have used them for century rides and they don't hurt my ear. I just use the right side so my left side is still able to hear traffic. I HIGHLY recommend these for cycling.

I'm a big fan of Yurbuds. They're basically standard headphones but with a silicone cover that fits in your ear. I've never had trouble with mine falling out and can still hear ambient noise.

I have a set of these, I need to use them more often though. I am finding lately that I really prefer the quiet of the empty road and the sound of the hub to music. I will probably use them for long rides, music is a great motivator.

How they work.. You can listen to your music, still hear cars coming, and still hold a conversation with a riding buddy. The riding buddy will not be able to hear the music clearly, if at all. I would recommend them for a safe solution to listening to music while riding.

These were my favorite headphones too. They were great sounding and very little noise cancelling, so I could always hear cars. Unfortunately, I think the sweat started corroding the housing of the wire and started to tear, so some of the wire got exposed. They still work and I use them off the bike.

Do you run them over or under your jersey? I used to use them over but they kept getting in the way. I have had mine for over a year, but most of that time I would only use it at work. Started using it while cycling and within a couple of months, it started to tear.

Hard to explain but I can send a picture later. I use an iPod shuffle which connects to my left strap of my bibs. Then I run the headphone wire under the strap (which keeps it from flopping around), under my left arm and then up the center of my back. Right side earbud goes to right ear and then I tuck the left under the strap on my left shoulder. This keeps the wire out of my way and gives plenty of slack for me to move my head left or right.

all great info i tried headphones as well (sure audio) and i dont like how i can't hear my riding buddy or traffic. i think i will give these a shot and let you all know what i think

JVC @ Walmart for $7. I use Pandora through my phone, right ear only. I can still hear what's going on around me( I heard a pit bull scratching the porch as he started to come after me), phone calls & my GPS if need be. When they go bad (bout a year) I just buy another set. They come in like 10 different colors too.

I use Motorola blue tooth headphones. I can listen to music, answer or make a phone call, all hands free without having to pick up my phone, just push a button on the headset.

Even if they work well, as long as you hear the music you will be less aware of other noises. I can imagine using them on rides out to the middle of nowhere (even then I do not listen to music, since the silence is more enjoyable and harder to come by), but in more crowded areas. No way. Just, no way. No with the speeds you are going on a race bike.

I've never had a fear of riding while listening to music. If I get hit from behind by a car, headphones and music won't make a difference.

It depends on if you are wearing earbuds in both ears. I always just use my right ear, which allows my left ear (closest to the road) to hear what is going on around me. There is no chance I would do both ears though. I did however use both ears when i was racing motorcycles and I was always told not to. Gosh, I miss being on 2 wheels with a motor sometimes.
