My Motobecane CT2 84'
Hi everyone!
First sorry for my English (I'm French )
I wanted to introduce you my Motobecane CT2 from 84'
I did a lot of modifications on it
First pic how it was when I bought it to an old woman who takes care of it for years
Already some pieces who were not original so no regrets to mod it!
First I had to replace the Handlebar with a VO randonneur GrandCru 44mm
with some Mafac brake levers (from an old bike in my basement ^_^)
Clamp on a nice Nitto Dynamic Stem
Then the saddle! This one ? No way !
even in the right way
So a Brooks B17 will perfect with a new seat tube from VO
Seat post done!
ok now something more complex; transmission!
the Huret Sachs Eco RD is really poor
and the original Shimano Adamas Crankset is not really appealing ^_^
so I decided to replace everything with an Shimano Golden Arrow groupset
I replace the BB too with a Shimano UN55
I had to change the steel rims/wheels for alloys if I want to stop it
The rear Freewheel was a Maillard Helicomatic (bad, bad, bad!)
A Maillard 700 Course will be better !
And a set of Soma Weymouth 650b rims should be perfect!
I built my wheels for the first time
I used some Normandy high flange hubs (they were in a really perfect condition)
To stop it I replace the Weinmann Vainqueur 750 (really bad!)
with Tektro R559 and some KoolStop Durastyle pads;
difference is amazing !
After couple of months working on it
VO snakeskin 650b fenders 50mm to fit the GrandBois Hêtre
Future modification : I waiting for a Stronglight 49D crankset
it will be great

Tres Bon! And now I have nearly exhausted my French. Lovely job OP

Bad example
Nicely done! And I agree that a 49D would be a nice change. Here is my older Motobécane Grand Jubile with the parts I prefer. Unlike you, I am still using the Weinmann Vainqueur brakes; they stop well with Kool Stop brake pads.

C'est jolie, c'est magnifique. J'aime bien ce velo et j'aime bien de velos francaise.
But I have forgotten how to write French, . Mais on le parle.
It's very cool that it has 650 wheels.

Old Motobecane Bike de Ville
A few years ago someone gave me this European model late 70's Motobecane. It has steel rim 700c wheels. Occasionally I think about fixing it up but I lay down until the feeling passes.
Looks similar to the OP's bike.

Looks like you may have a 650b project in your future if you change your mind,

Great work. I'm excited to build my own wheelset for the Peugeot too. Like you, it will be my first wheel build, and I would like to find a Normandy High Flange hub for the front (I'm installing a Sturmey FW four speed hub in the rear!).

Great looking bike. I love the blue with the silver decals. Striking good looks. Not a fender guy, but those look great too!
