So now day off is 60 bucks, and promoters wonder why less people attend their races.
i don't know this race, of course, but personally i feel like the penalties for late registration are really low for bike races. with the chance of injury, illness or bad weather, the extra $5 or $10 on top of $50 or even $150 in the case of some stage races doesn't matter so much. (of course i'd rather save money than spend it unnecessarily, but it doesn't take too many missed events to make the math work.)

i know that pre-reg benefits the promoters, but i feel like they should price pre-reg more aggressively -- or, more likely, make penalties higher for late reg -- to create the incentive.

even at $60, the cost of a bike race is low relatively to what the event actually costs to put on. have you seen the cost of some 5k running races? those involve minimal road closure, get tons of participants, have fewer hazards, and are done in like an hour, max.

as bike racers we don't see it that way, but race fees in 2017 probably do not reflect what it takes to keep this as a sustainable support, esp for promoters.

sorry, i know this is the norcal race thread, but it seemed relevant.

Mostly, although it's rectangular this year.

Ugh that kinda sucks.. I thought the flyer said something about a new course, but I was hoping it was old info/a copy-paste thing from an old flyer or something.

I guess the "hairpin"/100-degree turn is the same one as before, at Franklin & 22nd? I've done this race three times but have no idea what any of the streets are called.

Seems like they just eliminated 8 part of it? Looking at the map.
I am just glad the U turn on top of the hill is gone.

What's the objection to new course?

I keep hearing about a u-turn at the top of the hill, but that hasn't been a thing on this course since 2013 as far as I can tell. Anyway yeah that sounds crappy.

I don't object to the new course - I'll race just about anything - but I considered the old course special in the sense it was so different from most other courses (besides Modesto I guess).

Damn I guess that's the last time I raced there. Time flies!
What about Lodi, that's also 8 shape.

Thanks man!

I'm surprised it worked out the way it did, given I couldn't really race in Jan & Feb.

Well my car was broken in to in San Jose by Alumn Rock, and messenger bag that I had for 12+ years, custom order from Cal Cycling team when I was under grad there, stolen. It was dirty, covered in pain in spots, pretty much worthless monetary, but had great sentimental value. **** thieves.

How about Regalado? It's always been removed from the calendar other years, so I've never done it - not even sure if it's ever been done in years past... but if any of you have done it is it a flatlander race?

If the fixie race is actually USAC sanctioned it would be interesting to find out how they managed it. My understanding, is for a race to be held under USAC road race rules the bike must have a free wheel and brakes on both wheels,. However, under track rules those parts are only allowed for non-championship TT and pursuit races. There are also some fairly specific lane and distance marking requirements for an approved track course.

The drama should be worked out in private, but it’ll get wrung through Facebook court. I was curious if he was going to keep his events USAC, but not sure how that’d work without NCNCA. Seems that’s been answered directly though.

With the RedKite races pulled from the ncnca calendar, there’s still usac racing on all but 3 weekends until mid-October. So, there’s no shortage of racing to be had.

Curious if he tweaks his format for racing at all. Does he keep the same USAC-ish categories? Will he follow the OBRA 40+, 50+, etc model for masters racing?
