Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Handlebar suggestions please? Flat top, 70 reach,, 125 drop.

Hi Guys,

Looking at changing the stock bar that came on my new Canyon. Wanted a flat top, with reach 70, and drop 125-128 or so. Any suggestions? I kind of like the looks of the swep back bars too. I *imagine* that they would be comfortable? Opinions on that?

Kind of reasonable priced. Was looking at the 150 Euro mark.

Zipp SL70 Aero are the only ones that I can think of, but you won't like the price.

Yeah, the 70mm reach is the trick.. this may not fit you and is 80mm reach, but a great price imo.

Lol, I thought this thread was about the sl70’s too. Might be able to find some used for that price. I picked up a pair yesterday and they seem really nice so far. Interestingly they have 3 degrees of backsweep.

Ritchey WCS Curve. One of the best and lightest (235g) alloy handlebars on the market, and costs less than $100!

https://us.ritcheylogic.com/us_en/bi...urve-handlebar

Reach 73mm, drop 128.

I have this handlebar and adore it! Well-made, name-brand, light, comfortable and not expensive. What more could you want? It is not "aero" though, just a traditional compact handlebar shape.

Thanks. Have seen that. Been using FSA Omega bars with flat top for years now, and love the flat top.

So I think I am back to my original choice.

These Origin8 bars come close to your specs @ reach = 70mm, drop = 120mm and are reasonably priced in the ~$40 range.
( Product Description ? Product Origin8 )

Thanks. No flat top though.

I think I will order the Zipp SL70 alloy. Getting it for about 90 dollars at Jensons.

Edit: The SL 70 does not seem to have the flat top, but the cheaper 70 Ergo seems to have it.

they do have a flat top, it's just not an aero wing-style flat top.

from their website.

"A new variable radius drop, matching the carbon SL-70 Ergo, allows for multiple hand positions when riding in the drops. This provides comfortable hand positions for riders who like to reach down to the drops, as well as for riders who reach in. The ergonomic flat top now has a 3° backsweep for wrist comfort. A 10° ramp angle provides a perfect transition from bars to hoods, and sizes 40cm and up are clip-on compatible. The bar is also drilled to be Di2® RS910 junction compatible, and is available in a Bead Blast Black finish with white logos."

Strange. I see that description only on the non SL 70 Ergo. Even the pics of the SL70 don't look like the non SL 70 ergo. Attaching both pics.

This is the website I am looking at. I think the non SL is flat top, the SL is not?

https://zipp.com/bars/service-course-sl-70/

It even mentions a round top:

The SL-70’s round top provides a classic road-bar feel and is clip-on compatible.

A 10° ramp angle provides a perfect transition from bars to hoods, and the bar is also drilled to accept the Di2® RS910 junction. The SL-70’s round top provides a classic road-bar feel and is clip-on compatible.

This is a pic from the SL70 page and the second is from the non SL 70 ergo

The service course 70 ergo and service course sl70 ergo both have the flat top and slight back-swept shape, but the drops have a traditional style round bend,

No current Zipp handlebars use the old style ergo drops.
