How much biking experience do you have, and what kinda riding are you gonna do? I am a complete noob and I kinda figured out right away that i didnt know enough to buy a bike online, fit it correctly, and put it together, so I did go to a shop, cost a little more (not much) but I feel it was worth it.

1. Is that the right size for you?
2. Generic "21 speed shifting" description tells me they probably scraped the bottom of the barrel.
3. That bit about "...hand-crafted lightweight aluminum frame" is bogus at that price.

Thanks for the response. The size is ok - I sat on a 54 inch in a bike shop and it seems just rite.

You're probably not going to get much love for that bike on these forums. Do you have any biking experience? It might be worth it to just go to your local bike shop and try out a few bikes to see what you like. That way you can also get fitted for a nice frame so you'll know what to look for. You're under no obligation to buy a bike from there after this. Then, if you had the time, I would check out craigslist. Depending on where you live you might be able to score a good deal and a MUCH better bike. I picked up a Trek 7.3FX for $235, almost same price as that Giordano, but just better in every way. This route might require some patience though. For a quick fix and very casual riding the bike you posted might be fine.

I am a very casual rider. Probably just a weekend work out. Maybe to get around locally. I dont have very complex needs. I am just afraid to buy something thats complete junk. The aluminum frame bikes ive seen, are pretty light. This was one of the attractive points for me.

I am a bit paranoid about the speeds breaking and having to replace things.

Might not be complete junk, but add in your shipping cost and then ask your self if you feel comfortable assembling the bike and setting it up properly, if not you will need to pa for that as well. So adding in those costs, and your $230 value bike is now approaching $400.

I own this bike: https://www.bikesdirect.com/products/...se1_hybrid.htm

Price is the same, shipping was free and I have few complaints. While it's not everything my old Gary Fisher (which was stolen ) was it gets the job done for me, which is a 21 mile round trip commute 4 days a week. I am switching the tires over to Marathons in the next month or so, but for a person of a budget I'd really do homework on Bikesdirect. If you can't find reviews on the bike itself, break it down, they do a good job of listing components at the very least.

This comment, and a budget bike might get some flack on these forums, but if you're like me and it took 4-5 months to be able to afford a 250$ bike do you're homework and go for it. Now I'm saving nearly 40$ a week on gas, which will convert over to my new recreational road bike I'll be able to afford in the fall.

You can do better for that money once you learn what to look for in a bike. If you want new, something from Bikes Direct is a better choice at that price. Lots of good choices on Craigslist as well, but you have to know what you are looking at to be able to pick out the good bikes at fair prices.

When you guys say "fitted" to a bike ... is that just a quick, standover / reach check ?

Just a quick glance, the stamped steel & rivited non replacable, chainrings & crank is a joke, so is the flimsy FD, the tension screws on the v-brakes are going into plastic, scary welds on steel stem, steel seatpost and dated saddle clamp, the shipping weight is 36lbs... I sure it has quality bb/hub bearings and headsets.

I'm a fan of (*better* frames made from) steel , but NOT a fan of steel stems and seatposts ...

A diamondback insight https://www.amazon.com/2013-Diamonbac...d_sim_sbs_sg_6 would be a HUGE upgrade compared to this, for like a 100$ more.

Most of the time they are talking about going to a bike shop and having a professional job done to get your bike fitted properly by someone that has been trained in the black arts.

I bought this exact same bike for my daughter a couple months back. It came from Nashbar.com, which is probably where Amazon is selling it through. They were having an additional 20% off sale, which they do from time to time. This brought the price down to $264. This is a MUCH better bike for the money then the Giordano is.

I have seen some nice bikes at a Performance bike shop. I don't know how big this chain is. When they have a sale they have low prices. I think buying online if you know what you are ordering. But, I need assistance with sizing.
Have you thought of going to a local shop that specializes in
refurbishing used bikes?

I would say that bike would be a "no go" for you. Do you have a" local " Bikes Direct dealer near you ?

There are 3 of them here in Jacksonville, these are the bikes that are posted online. They carry them for the same price, and offer the tune ups etc

Buying stuff online is great, like bike parts, etc. But buying a whole bike without testing it is not a good idea. Buy one from a reputable bike store in your area, you can get a good bike at a reasonable price plus usually it comes with one free tune-up after a month. You can even try your local Craigslist for a great used bike.

Not really, he was asking if "fitting" meant just the rule of thumb standover height and reach to the bars, or if it meant something more. I was trying to explain it as the "something more". I suppose if I had worded it differently it may not have sounded like circular logic but still said the same thing.
