Buying a new hybrid bike and I'm interested in replacing the stock tires with something puncture resistant. Will need size 700x32 or 700x28. Suggestions? And a good place to buy them?

Hi, I bought Panaracer RibMo tires with "Protection Technology" and I love them, they are my new "go to tire". I bought them from a bike store on ebay and it was $44.50 for a pair. You can read the reviews on Amazon about the tires. Here's the ebay link:

Thanks for the info. I just put them on my ebay Watch List and also on Amazons' Wish List. As soon as I buy my bike, I'll def consider these. The reviews sound great and the price is reasonable.

Looking at the 7.4 FX with Bontrager Race All-Weather Hard-Case, 700x32c. Came across some reviews on those tires that overall were not very positive. I'm a little spoiled...Rode around 2,000 - 2,500 miles on my 18 year old hybrid with stock tires and never got a flat and I'm not looking to start now.

Tires have a milage rating. On a cost per kilometer basis - I haven't found anything cheaper than Marathon Plus or Marathon Supreme tires. The name 'Marathon' was coined for a reason - these tires deliver an amazing number of miles or kilometers.

I get amazing mileage out of my Marathon Supremes. Between 6, 000 - 9, 000 miles. And, no flats for the last 6 years.

Ive gone thru 6 tires, have 2 mounted, and currently have 3 tires in the basement. I store them in the basement, vacuum shrink wrapped in heavy food saver bags.

Yes, I have picked many hitch hikers out of both front and rear tires. But not one has ever gotten thru that ceramic belt. The only thing my patch kit comes out for now, is patching other peoples tubes........ lol

The sidewalls usually start cracking just about the time that the tread is worn out, and no longer visible.

By watching Niagara Bicycle, I've bought them as cheap as 26 bucks, and never paid more than 42, on sale.

I ride 35s on the front, and 40s on the rear. How I arrived at this mix, was price. I once got 2 35s for 26 bucks apiece. I'm still on my original Schwalbe tubes, and these things hold air better than any tube I have used in the last 60 years.

I love the mix of sizes. The 35 on the front improves quickness and handling, without sacrificing comfort, and the 40 improves comfort, without sacrificing handling.

Now, I am a big Schwalbe fan......

One more thing ----I used to average 2.5 flats per week - about one every 100 miles.

Like Burton says - they work out pretty cheap!

Bontrager's Hard-Case tires are indeed puncture-resistant (hence the "Hard-Case" label), and the newer AW Hard-Case tires (may be different if you're looking at an older model) have been getting mostly positive reviews from what I've seen. In any case, I have also typically heard a lot of positive things about various Continental and Schwalbe tires, such as the Gatorskins and Marathons mentioned already in this thread.

I been using the "forte tires" and I have over 2800 miles on them flat free.
good enough to stop a speeding bullet, good enough to stop a flat.
I hope I'm not jinxing myself.
at times they go on sale for less. watch for sales. I paid about 12.00
all my riding is on mups. some of them aren't very clean in spots .

Vittoria Zafiro OR Vittoria Rubino. You can get both in 28s. They are from $30 to $50 a pair on Amazon. Both gave me few k of happy, no flat miles. I have bunch of cuts on the oldest set from riding on everything, but nothing made to the tube. Of course its a matter of luck over anything else in my opinion, but I trust them more than any other tire I ever owned.

Granted it's really the only skinny tire I know but my Cannondale Quick 4 came with these and I have to say, I've ridden over some stuff that should have rendered me helpless and I have yet to get a flat! These puppies are confidence inspiring, for sure. (and relatively cheap)

I'm sure those marathons are great, but daggum that's an expensive tire.

FWIW, mine are 700 x 32 as I think that 32 is the perfect hybrid tire size.

My Trek came with Bontrager Hard-Case Ultimate tires. Rode over 2000 miles this past year with no tire problems at all. Not even when I hit a vertical i-beam head on destroying my front wheel.

Curious if anybody would know of a faster tire in this category??

I'm plenty happy in the comfort and protection department with the Kenda Kwick Trax but I know there's a little penalty in speed because of those things.

Schwalbe Marathon Supreme. Pricy,but worth it,and not too bad if you shop around on the Internet. Super wet weather grip,excellent puncture protection,fairly light,reflective sidewalls.

Other than low max pressure, this tire sounds and look pretty good.

brands have fans , there are several ways to resist penetration thru the tread , polymers
and belts of aramids and kevlar ..

consensus on any one is unlikely ..
