Here's my Univega, back from the powercoater and built back up with Sora/Deore 1x9 setup. I just got this thing built in time for the peanut butter of Melting Mann and then for 36 miles of Barry Roubaix in the rain and mud. Here she is getting a bath but still hardly clean.

Can somebody please tell me the model of this under the frame bag from Blackburn bag. I am brand new to gravel grinding and want to get it right the 1st time. Does the bag sometime rub your legs on climbs?

I just took an amazingly fun gravel ride on my 1971 Raleigh Super Course. I went to Minnewaska State Park Preserve in NY. I went up the hill to Lake Awosting. When I got back, I learned that the hill is called Heart Attack Hill, and I can see why. Going up took a lot of effort. Coming down could also give heart attacks from the speed over gravel. My GPS app says I only hit 25 mph, so I guess gravel adds to the perception of speed.

The tires are Panaracer Pasela, 27-inch. The front is 28mm, and the rear is 32mm.

I noticed the car before the bike, as I've been thinking of looking at Elements when my current Accord dies (which might be some time yet...). Putting a trunk-mounted bike rack on a sedan is the worst! Well, as far as first-world problems go, anyway.

The Honda Element is my wife's. She got it for hauling building supplies, etc, as she is renovating the house in a big way. It turns out to be nice for sport, too. We can just toss two bikes in the car unceremoniously. One of the back seats is out permanently, and the other is usually folded up against the side of the car, so we have a cavern inside with the wide doors providing access. So SUV is a good term for this car.

The light mount is a QR skewer nut replacement. It screws onto the skewer and acts as a regular nut, and it also provides a cylinder that is handlebar-diameter size. Very handy if you don't mind the light being so bad. You can see there is also a fork-crown-mounted dynamo-powered headlight. I was cautious because I got lost on that mountain in January of last year, at sunset time. It was scary.

All the other companies copied that design more or less, and they all did a better job, or so I've read. That's why Honda stopped making the Element. It's mighty useful, but honestly, it doesn't ride well. It's bouncy and loud. We can't complain, as she got it with 205,000 miles on it, and it now has 238,000 miles on it. Fuel efficiency is good at about 25 mpg. The engine is inadequate for some people, but it's fine for us. The automatic transmission is excellent as autos go.

After racing cross on it last fall, I decided to add some canti bosses. The mini-v's stop all right but the pads are waaaaayyyyy to close to the rims so I've got plans to go with traditional cantis.

It's working for me (: Google Photo is a pain, I could never find a way to get a direct link to the image and when I did, it expired after a few days. I went back to Flickr, much easier to copy/paste BBCode for images.

Sweet build! Love the Salsa stem- nice relatively rare touch. And the added lettering is a neat touch.

What did the frame start its life as? I am assuming Centurion since thats what you show.
The Centurion Touring bikes I am aware of both had the SunTour downtube symetric shifters where as your frame has brazed on cable stops on the downtube...so it isnt one of those.
But there is a good bit of tire clearance from the seat tube and the bike has canti brakes and rack mount points...what Centurion frame had all this while also having downtube cable stops?!

I use dropbox. It lets you create an ambiguous link which can be copied and pasted. The zero at the end of the URL has to be changed to a 1 and it works perfectly.

Changed the zero at the end to a 1 and pasted it into the add photo dialog and voila! This is my Niner gravel bike.

Hey, thanks. It was a Lemans RS ---- I added the canti mounts, braze on front der hanger, rack mounts, bottle bolts. It had a clamp on downtube stop, so I brazed on cable stops.

Right on, thats excellent work! And it certainly explains a lot as I couldnt place a model Centurion where the RD cable would route above the chainstay, but also have cantis and 2 bottle cage holders. I didnt even notice the FD tab you added, as that would have REALLY thrown me for a loop of confusion!

In a world where $2000 bikes are apparently mid-level in many people's eyes, its great to see something like this brought back to life. The tubing is quality and what you added to it makes the bike completely modern in function.

Hey thanks for the kind words! I'm not sure if I'm just cheap, but when I see carbon fiber gravel grinders I think to myself you dont get it. Gravel grinders are not supposed to (in my eyes) cost more than $300-400.
