Crack in Garmin Screen
I accidentally dropped my Garmin 530 onto the garage floor and it has a real but minor crack in the screen. The device still works fine.
I painted over the cracked area with clear nail polish, my hope is this will keep the unit water-tight and also maybe prevent the cracks from spreading.
Good idea? Other suggestions??

I'd put a glass screen protector over it if it's still flat enough for one to work. I'd also get a silicone case. I have one from TUSITA on amazon that I really like.

I would think about contacting garmin. They have a reputation for being fairly generous in situations like this.

I agree that you should call Garmin Support. They might offer you a re-furb'd 530 for a low cost. Or they might be feeling like Santa Claus that day and just send you another free. You never know till you call. The odds are even more in your favor if this is less that 2 years old. But I've had them go over and above for much older. Maybe because when they look at my account they see how many Garmin products I own. Since more than a couple purchases ago, I don't have enough fingers and toes to come up with an answer! <grin>
If you do get another, then put one of those screen protectors on it. I think someone makes some for Garmin's. I just cut out a screen protector for a smart phone to match. I've had good luck with the soft screen protectors that go on like a skin. But the thin glass or hard plastic are likely marginally better if not way better. But I have on more than one occasion dropped my phone with one of the soft screen protectors and it landed face down and it so far has survived more than the one phone I didn't have any screen protector on that shattered about the first time or two it was dropped..

My friend cracked the screen on his (I think) 830. It was still functional, but ugly. Garmin sent him a refurbished unit at a very low cost, so now he has two functional computers.

I’d second, contacting Garmin. They are pretty fair with working with customers. Good luck.

This is what I did with a cracked pump display.
