First hilly ride

My normal ride consists of some small rolling hills but that's about it. Went to Montgomery Bell State Park in Burns, TN this weekend and took a 25 mile bike ride that ridewithgps shows with +1900 feet of climbing. I'm not sure how accurate that figure is but I do know we climbed some major hills that seemed to go forever. I actually had to get off once towards the end and push my bike for a 100 feet or so. I just couldn't pedal anymore. I've logged almost 900 miles since I bought my first bike in May of this year and this hilly ride humbled me big time.

Bikes: Had a Surly Cross Check - was totaled in recent accident. Sadly now just a Fuji Crosstown as a backup bike.

I envy flat landers. . . nothing but hills in my particular area. . . up and down and up and down . . .

You don't realize how much hills benefit you until you do a ride with people who don't ride hills. I am not the fastest guy going up hill, but when I get next to people who don't ride hills I do all right.

You'll get used to it. My commute is currently about 32 miles round trip with about 1700' of climbing. When I first returned to cycling I thought that was hilly, now I barely notice it.
