If you don't want a value, ignore Fuji and Trek all together. Have you considered Colnago?

Man, I'm not gonna lie. I'm a Trek guy, and I was actually going to get the Madone 2.1 but they don't really make it anymore and you can't find it in bigger frame sizes. If I would have known about the Roubaix 1.1, I would've taken that for a test ride too. That looks like a pretty solid bike for the money. Not much to complain about, components-wise, and it's a great price.

At this point, I'm ready to tell him to just go to the shop that has the Trek and buy the one that he likes best without roadtesting, as that seems to be his intentions.

Alias, I can't send a message to you so I hope you get it on here. Thanks for your candor. I told them many times to not include price as part of the reasoning but to only talk about bike benefits. But they just cannot resist. So as u know, I am new to road bikes. I have owned a mountain bike for a long time and I ride that on the roads. I have never really had any road bike experience. But I am very serious about purchasing one, probably in the next 2 to 4 weeks if possible. Now as far as testing, I don't know how that works. If you're over 200 pounds, like 230, will they be afraid to let you try? One time in a used bike shed/wear house, this small asian guy told me he typically doesn't sell his bikes to people over 200 pounds. So I was a little tripped up after that experience but after doing some research, it appears Trek supports up to 275 pounds and a lot of riders in that weight range said they had no problems. My other question is about bike size. I don't really understand bike fit or bike size. I am a little over 5 ft 10. What size am I looking for? So I'm willing to test some bikes, but I just kind of have to know the ropes and I certainly don't want to be pressured into buying on the spot. Thanks.

You need to go some where else then. I can think of a dozen, well seasoned racers, who all tip the scales over 200 while riding some fantastically light rigs.

The 'small' seller really did you a disservice. There are plenty of road bikes that will support your weight just fine. Wheels might be a concern, but that's okay.
At a decent retail shop, they'll help you with sizing (likely ~56cm) and shouldn't pressure you. Start with a Trek store or whatever you have nearby.

WTF....re-read your original post that started this thread. You were specifically talking about price. That was part of your original question and now you don't want people to include pricing as part of their suggestions for you? So if money is no object look at the Emonda SLR...it's made by the only bike manufacturer you are familiar with. Of course it's carbon fiber so it may assplode under your 230 lb frame

Why do we have to convince you Fuji is better? What if two $1200 bikes, one from Trek, one from Fuji, are both just as good taking into account your intended purpose? What if they both have good frames, good weights, and components that are fine?
Anyways, the Roubaix 1.1 which is $1299 at PB was recommended way back on page 2 and I'd certainly take it for a ride to compare to the Madone 2.1. It seems to satisfy plenty of buyers.

the thing is that Trek probably has more money to spend on marketing, keyword, "MARKETING", and in that process of marketing from Trek they feed you their bull**** about how Trek is better.

why doesn't he convince us why trek is better than fuji. the fuji Roubaix 1.1/SSt/Altamira/transonic etc.. is a good bike i own one and its stiff ,light, fast, ultegra/105 components.
