MTD 215

Not going to make my 300 mile goal as I've lost so much ride time/days to weather. And now I think I'm getting a chest cold. stupid fall. >.>

I do need to get one of those head cover things that looks like a scuba hood but is made out of like underarmor material.

Didn't think I was going to make my goal this month, but got an excellent trail ride in today to bring me to 312 miles for October. Rain tomorrow, so that may be it.

You should add in some higher intensity rides to go along with those Z2 endurance ride...

So closes the book on October, a month of highs and lows to be sure.

833.7 miles
50.3 hours
32,019ft^

Just the second time this year I failed to break 900 miles for the month, and my lowest climbing total for a single month by a good couple thousand feet. Also the least amount of saddle time. After the physical collapse during the first week of the month, I can genuinely say I'm still recovering. I had a couple of decent rides afterward, but have been largely relegated to modest Z2 efforts 3x a week, full-on Z1 cruises the other 2, and a mandatory 2 rest days, no riding. I had a grand total of 1 ride of 80% intensity for the month.

I messed myself up pretty good, y'all.

Didn't make my 300 mile goal due to so much wind/bad weather.

MTD for October 221
YTD 688 (on my new ceramic hip)

Time to set up the trainer in the basement with the one bike and have the other one ready to go for the not completely crappy winter weather times.

I just finished a short ride then looked at the stem length versus the bar to saddle drop. I'm within regulations. 120 stem 120 saddle to bar drop

My prescription is more intensity, less smellin the roses.
As a guy once told me... you ride at 18 mph all the time you get real good at that. He also told me.. I NEVER want to hear you on my wheel. Be out in the wind; you get no training affect being on someones wheel.

Well, I ride solo almost exclusively (except for a Saturday or Sunday with the wife) and due to an ill-advised 70 consecutive days of riding (2,700 miles and 100k ft^ in that span) I'm still reeling from the after effects. Truth be told, I should probably not put butt-to-seat for at least a week straight, but that's never going to happen. Even under my new self-imposed limits, I put in 100 miles in the pouring rain this month.

Besides, Z2 is soooooo easy now. A whole day of 230-240w average? Cake. Going faster takes a disproportionate amount of increased effort for the net result. I mean, 20% more power is good for about 2.5mph. I have become a diminishing return.

So you made me feel guilty by not meeting my 20 hour goal. Rode some late yesterday and then I had 45 minutes to kill tonight so I went and did a 90% effort ride. Got chilly.

But(!) the net result over the long run is that 250W becomes cake. I usdedta could think 230W was unobtanim. Now it's.. how do I not just fall over. I'd never ever ride that many days in a row. My heaviest week this year was 11 hours and 7 of that was JRA back in Feb. The rest of the time it's been doing work that will in the end make me faster. An average week for me was 9 hours in the saddle.

Nothing good ever comes easy...Or as my stem sticker keeps remindin me.... "Hurt now, puke later"

Stats for the month; 462 miles , 35 hours , 8 cross races. 0 visits to the podium

Also had my annual trip to the doc for a physical and all the numbers are looking good; Blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol, etc. With one exception. Still working on getting my weight down to a number that starts with one. Am close at 203. Going on vacation next week to Yucatan peninsula in Mexico so diet picks up again after that.
