My Dad's 1940s bicycle scrapbook part 1
I am starting put together my family's history in the bicycle business. My Dad went to High School in Los Angeles. He told me rode his bike everywhere and was very interested in cycle racing. These pictures are from the scrapbook he made during the 1940s. Had to split into 2 posts because of the 10 picture limit.
My Dad with his Schwinn Superior
Schwinn Superior
Interesting that Dad met Reg Harris in the 1970s at the New York Bike Dealer Show - Reg had made an amazing comeback racing again winning a British title in 1974 at the age of 54.

Nice!
Although I suspect the Legnano pista was claimed to be 7.8 kg and not 7 lbs. 8 oz.

Very cool, thanks for sharing.
I like that ‘Bianchi Stand,’ that’s really neat.

Nice, and somewhat suprising, to see Frans Slaats and Cor Bijster in there. Was there a Dutch connection?

No Dutch connection that I know of. Dad's family from Texas and Ok. Grandma always said she related to the Wright brothers but I have not been able to find that.
The clips are probably what showed up in Los Angeles newspapers

I just googled Norma Jean Belloff and found her daughter has written a book about her Mom's ride across the US in 1948.

Yeah, the bikes are interesting and all...but man, that Norma Jean Beloff! What an adventurer she must have been. Would I love to have talked to her and compared notes about the Southern Tier Route.
