I never met the man, but felt like I knew him. He also replied e-mails, which was great. A very very helpful and selfless human being.

He will be missed.

Godspeed Sheldon Brown.

I'm not usually one to say things like this, but he was a hero to me, just for being who he was, and sharing his genius in the way that he did.

RIP Sheldon. You really will be missed.

He was selfless in sharing his lifetime of valuable knowledge. I really cannot think of many people willing to share so much for so little in return. It might sound silly but I wish I could somehow give him all the time he saved me. Vaya con Dios.

He helped me quite a few times, through parts that no one else had, through email advice, and even just by reading his site alone. A really great guy who would go out of his way to help others. RIP Sheldon.,,,,Miguel

First time I have been on in awhile, and I usually don't stop in at the Mechanics threads. Sheldon Brown is a great loss to the bicycling community. My condolences to all of you that knew him. He will be missed.

The few times he helped me were great. He always answered my rather esoteric questions within a day or so, and was always a gentleman.

I'm going to be rather bummed out for a while.

I am shocked, and saddened.

Hey Sheldon,

Rubber side down for the rest of eternity.

Your positive attitude, and encyclopedic knowledge, and helpful hints will be direly missed.

Very sad news. My thoughts are with his family. Hopefully their pain will be eased knowing how much Sheldon gave to others through his efforts. As I read through his website and his posts and replies here on BF, I often paused and thought about how much work he put into these pages. Such passion. Something we don't see often.

Thanks for all your help, Sheldon.

He helped inspire me to cable my own bike when I first started riding. He also helped me to inspire others to be brave and do the same. Sheldon, thank you.

He was such a generous guy - to take all of that time and trouble to create the website, and to help out here on the forums, so that the rest of us could have the benefit of his vast knowledge and experience.

I got an e-mail from him posted Saturday at 3:01 p.m. that I will save in tribute.

I will also ride the MS tour this summer in his honor.

The first site I came across when I first went online to find out how to fix my bike was Sheldon's, and I never needed to look any further. He also would respond personally to emails and BF posts and give sage advice. He convinced me to save my bike, when I was ready to give up. His legacy will live on long after him. Keep ridin on, Sheldon!

This is terrible news. He was a hero to cyclists here, but he became a hero because of giving his time and knowledge freely. Even after becoming a hero, he continued to give his time and knowledge freely without a hint of ego. A really good guy, and missed already.

I am saddened to hear this, I think each and everyone of us benefited from his down to earth advice . It was through Sheldon Brown I found this forum.

The Cycling World has suffered today, to his family I offer my most sincere condolences, but I will also give thanks that we had him with us for the time he was given.
