Congratulations. I hope you enjoy every minute in the saddle.
I was so thrilled to ride again after beating cancer (three years ago).

Thanks to all for all the kind words.
I started back commuting to work by bike three days a week, giving my legs a rest every ether day. I hope to be back up to speed commuting everyday by the end of the month.
It was almost like having my whole body in a cast for three months losing a lot of muscle mass. It is true what they say, if you don't use it you will lose it. But I'll get it back hopefully soon. I just have to remember to take one day at a time.
Thanks again.
Life is good! And the best seeing it on your bike.

I built up slowly and at week 8 I did a 30 mile flat ride but I was on BB's and struggled. Max HR of 130 and it felt like above my max at the time of 165.
My problem came about a year later when Lethargy set in--I was old- why should I push up that hill- I've had a bypass. Why do that extra mileage-I've had a bypass. Its cold today why bother- I've had a bypass. So I set a target of the hardest ride I have ever done and it was a hard one. Took a couple of years due to a different problem but I entered it- did it and never again were my words afterwards. Pity I didn't listen as I did it for the next 3 years and finally stopped doing it at 59. Reckoned that last time took too much out of me.
So set a goal for the future and within you capabilities-Train for it. 14 years after the bypass and still riding but don't do anything silly like 100 milers offroad in one day. I leave that to the youngsters.
