Jamis Renegade vs All City Space Horse?

I've been eyeing the Jamis Renegade s4 for a couple weeks. I'd like to do some weekend bikepacking, and commute around town and it seems the Renegade is great value for money. However, in the current drought, I found a 2021 Space Horse at my LBS. It has better a group set, but is slightly heavier. Thoughts on the differences? they both have their fans and seem like great bikes.

If you're considering the steel Renegade, spend the extra $350 for the S3, no question. You get a much better GRX 400 groupset with a 46/30 crank that will be more suitable for bikepacking / gravel than the 50/34 on the S4. I would also choose the steel Renegade over the Space Horse because the geometry is more contemporary, and the build is much better than the similar price Tiagra Space Horse.

The Space Horse has a steel fork while the Renegade's is carbon, this contributes to the weight difference. I personally like the steel fork look more so I'd lean toward the Space Horse. However, I'd build it up from the frame vs buying it complete.

Both are good bikes, the Renegade probably has more fans on here.

Bikes: Co-Motion Cappuccino Tandem,'88 Bob Jackson Touring, Co-Motion Cascadia Touring, Open U.P., Ritchie Titanium Breakaway, Frances Cycles SmallHaul cargo bike. Those are the permanent ones; others wander in and out of the stable occasionally as well.

I agree on both points. The Renegade will be more fun to ride too as it is just a bit more lively. On the Space Horse you will miss out on compliance; it is indestructible at the expense of passing on all of that rough road right to your arms, legs and butt. If you really want a good bike balanced for gravel and road, Renegade S3 is really hard to beat.
