Addiction LXXX

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

My fat bike tires cost a little less (each) than the tires on the Sportwagen. But, I run Bridgestone Potenzas/Blizzaks on the VW and I don't use studded tires on the fat bike.

Those are wide enough that even I suggest running them tubeless.

That's more than a wheel upgrade on the Sportwagen.

Literally. I think a fat bike tube weighs almost a pound.

These trails actually aren’t bad, but she’s convinced I’m going to seriously injure myself.

Honestly after everything I went through with my hip, I’m not super keen to risk falling an undoing four years worth of incremental improvements. Same reason I don’t ski.

I ignored mountain bikes for 38 seasons and then a friend talked me in to buying one for winter use. I used it 4 times in which I broke a rib in a crash when I fell down a ravine and then tore a meniscus in my knee after a slow speed crash. I sold it.

This.

Unfortunately, that's what we sign on for when we get a pet. They give to us, and it's the least we can do in return.

Cripes, they remind me of the old Dunlop wire wheels on my MGB! But I couldn't run them tubeless.

No it isn’t. Feeling healthy and pain free is priceless, yet something under-appreciated until it’s gone.

I see MTBers in videos and they seem to be having fun, but after a few rides on dirt with the hybrid bike I bought for commuting years ago, I realized that I have issues with not being in control of both wheels at all times.
