Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Robin Williams has already signed to play Johan Bruyneel. There's a great bit when Robin is driving the team car and rolling off constant one-liners into Lance's earpiece. Classic. Billy Crystal is going to play Jean-Marie Leblanc. If Damon can get into race shape, he should be the perfect foil to these two great actors. Actually, my pick for Lance is the always classy Heith Ledger. He could use all of the emotion from Brokeback, where he constantly utters the now famous line "Mrmmph...". Would be a perfect fit for the loquacious Lance.

Apparently it's been written that McConnahey's bohemian lifestyle includes not wearing any deodorant ever so he's gotta be hell to ride behind.
McConnahey "hey guys I can pull, it's boring back here".
Lance "ALL pulls are on me today Matt, really"

You want skinny for the Lance role? How about Kevin Bacon?

P.S. Congrats on the blue Rad.

all those posts and not a single "gay cowboy" mention.
Gyllenhaal is there for the plot, "Brokeback Montaigne", a touching story between Lance and George, who sneak off together to France every year about the same time.
Ideally, they should type-cast for Lance, someone like Robert Downey Jr.

Lord no, This movie is going to have all the appeal of a success-tragedy-successs made for TV weepy job from the early 90's. I predict release straight to DVD.

Would be better to do the comedy version a'la Will Ferrel's latest effort. "Tourmalet Nights" anyone?

Wow, this movie will suck, I can tell already. It's only been a year since Lance won his last TdF and they're making a movie already? Not one movie has been made about Eddy Merckx, and it's been like 30 years since his last win? Maybe in 20 years Lance can have his movie, but not now, it's just too soon.

About Matthew McCockinmyass, he isn't even man enough to ride a road bike on the road, watch a little bit of that movie with him and Al Pacino, he rides his bike in casual sh and just bums around on sidewalks.

I almost forgot; I think John Goodman should play Jan Ulrich, and that one guy from Queer Eye plays Hincapie. Kid Rock should play Floyd.

it just seems weird...i mean he's only in his mid 30s! why make a movie about someone who has the rest of their career in front of them? and with the public image of cycling in the toilet right now it makes even less sense. and lastly, it will be how lance wants to be seen, so it will be mostly a work of fiction i'm sure.

I am still under the impression that the american public hit its LA saturation quota. First we like to root for the under dog or the champion, what do you root for with LA now, that he dosn't pull a hammy riding with non-cyclist actors, and will the average joe really pay $9+ to go see a story that has been force fed to them for the last 3 or 4 years?

Nah, save that title for the made for TV movie about Hincapie's 2006 Roubaix experience (and as someone mentioned earlier, he can be played by Jake Gyllanhaul).

Jake's already climbed Brokeback Mountain many times, I heard he's always up for more training as soon as he finds a new "riding" partner.

Wonder if there could be a musical slant here? It would be an ideal opportunity to partner an Alp d'Huez sequence to "Climb Every Mountain" from The Sound Of Music

Uh.....this won't work. Because how many people would watch a movie about Lance Armstrong? Maybe a documentary. I could somehow see them making a movie around the sport of cycling. Perhaps some newbie "going against all odds" to win the Tour de France, or even some fictional race. And maybe Lance was out there because he's got obvious celebrity and he's pretty much available and it gets press. If it was Hincapie, no one would know what's going on besides the members of this forum, etc etc. You already know it's pretty much going to suck if they go with an a-list face like gyllenhaal or the other guy. It should be a no name, especially on a project that could go belly up or just crash hard at the box office. Somehow, new faces have better luck with these type of ventures.

That's actually pretty funny what the fat cyclist said. Only about 6,000 cyclist. Moron. There were something like 5 million bicycles sold in the US alone last year. You don't have to be an Am or a Pro to be considered a cyclist. What a tool. I'm iffy on the whole idea of this movie, but if it turns out well, it turns out well, you know?
