Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Actually, he didnt achieve anything yet.

But this guy sure did! SOme of you may be old enough to recall Terry Fox, an amputee who ran a Marathon a day for 143 consecutive days, in order to raise money.

He never made it to his goal, but he was a true hero. They made a TV movie about it.

Terry Fox is the very definition of perseverence and hope. It is a shame that most of us Yanks don't know anything about him. I lived in Toronto for 2 years and he is (rightly) considered a national hero.

On days where I feel too tired to ride, I just think of things like this and it gets me motivated.

Yea up here Terry is considered a national hero. Every year there are 'Terry Fox' runs all over the country to raise money for cancer research, cool stuff.

Also Dean Karnazes is a pretty tough SoB. He's ran a few races that few here would consider cycling, heh.

I agree, I live in Canada and Terry Fox is truly a national hero and inspiration to many many people. I met him very briefly when he was running his Marathon of Hope through southern Ontario and it is something I will never forget. What all he accomplished running with only leg and his continuing legacy makes all other "sports heroes" look like choir boys.
