We don't get MLK day, but we do get Good Friday. I once asked a labor lawyer why we got the latter off. He wasn't sure, but there were two schools of thought. The first was that, in the early days, the railroad had a good number of Irish and Italian Catholic employees. The second was that union members used to get their birthdays off. That was a scheduling headache. The thought is that that benefit was traded for Good Friday.

That's because lots of people have Monday off. If you have limited sick time for things like Dr. appointments (we do not), going on a holiday is beneficial.

I am essentially self-employed. Don't work, don't get paid but still have to pay expenses. That's why I typically take one week vacation/year, last one was in June.
I am not complaining. Well, actually I am. But it's ok.

Sad. I must say that I cannot complain about the benefits here. Two or three years ago the years of service requirement for 5 weeks of vacation was lowered from 18 to 10, which immediately bumped me up to 5. Took 4 of those. Rolled over the remaining one. Another nice perk that was added relatively recently is HSA contribution matching. 50% match with a cap of $600. $600 is nearly half my deductible. Plus, you can earn up to an additional $300 by doing things like not smoking, taking a health survey, having a colonoscopy if you are man over age 50 and a mammogram if you are a woman over a certain age.

I asked her if she liked working there. She flat out said "no."
Among other things, she said she signed up to be "part-time" but was working 60 hour weeks. I think she said she was seeing 27 patients a day.
I thought rheumatologists didn't have to work. Oops.

Yesterday I had the first appointment with my witch doctor at her new group (weighed in at 138 pounds, incidentally).
I asked her if she liked working there. She flat out said "no."

You may have to shop for a new witch doctor. Sad!

I get 26 days/yr and it's not really enough, at least at my age, ability to delegate, and desire to do other stuff. If I take off five or six weeks for a transatlantic race in 2021 and do all the other cruising, racing, traveling and visiting my baby in Ireland, that I want to do before that, I'm going to have to retire or go into LWOP. Probably the latter. Hell, I even have an old riding buddy who wants to go touring.

She mentioned that she sent patient records to the group four months ago and no one scanned them in. Yikes.
A change would be unfortunate, because this office is literally within walking distance for me.

Montana and Idaho, flying to Missoula June 15th. Much of what I did in 2017 but skipping Glacier. Also going to incorporate the Route of the Hiawatha Trail:
The Route of the Hiawatha Scenic Bike Trail (Official Website)
Staying in a few different campgrounds as well.
Would end up starting in MT, then going into ID on day 2 then into MT and back into ID on day 3 then back into MT for good on day 4.

I get 52 weeks of vacay per year. Not bragging, I'm old enough and I've paid my dues.

Ludak left this morning, heading first to Chichen Itza, and then to the US consulate in Cancun. He is not sure he was properly checked out of the US, and is almost certain he was not checked into Mexico. He has a time limit in the US which he will surpass if there is no record of him having left temporarily. That is a very common thing when crossing in West Texas.
I asked him about the best drink, and he said water is all he uses, and all he recommends. He likes to buy six bananas of a morning and eat one every half hour, before having to stop for more to eat. He gave me a very nice insider's look at the touring life, and I am very much looking forward to trying it out myself, come May.
As to my knee pain, he says 95% of knee problems are caused by too short guads, and turned me on to his favorite stretching techniques, for both guads and hamstrings.
It was a very dense visit.
