I think the only bike I have done centuries on is my 1982 McLean. I bought it used in 1983. A couple of years ago, I replaced the drivetrain.

All these beautiful bikes! Hopefully by this summer I'll have earned my way to post my bike here too.

Century Bicycles

Several centuries on a Miyata 914.

Several metric centuries on Miyata 914, Raleigh Cadent FT2, and Raleigh Record Ace.

I'm shopping for a tandem to ride in a century (100m) this October. I've got my eye on an older da Vinci Joint Venture, but I think a Co-Motion Speedster would do nicely, too.

The old Colnago has just short of a half century on it.

The longest single day ride was about 180 miles. Photo was from last fall, day 2, after 130+ miles with a lot of climbing.

The "New" Colnago has also hit about 180 miles at least once.

In fact, both Colnagos managed to do the Blackberry Century last year, with the old one towing the new one for about 30 miles to and from, then being ridden by one of the other bikeforum members for the ride.

The Bike Friday did about 150 miles towing its trailer a year and a half ago. That may be the last super-century for it to tow.

The Tricross did make it for 100+ miles once. Up the Willamette (about 20 miles loose gravel), then over the mountains from Westfir to Cougar Reservoir, and back to Springfield (skipping a short gravel segment as it was getting late). I'm not a particularly big fan of fat tires, but it does well with the X'Plor USH tires.

Photo below was another trip for about 100 miles in a day and a half.

My litespeed has also done about 2 century rides shortly after being assembled. It is pretty much my dedicated rain/town bike now, so most days it gets < 50 miles now.

2009 Salsa Podio. Yes, it's more of a crit bike, but it's the only road bike I have. I completed a Tour de Cure century on it a few years ago. Yes, I am in the market for a more compliant distance ride.

I'll ride this bike in the Tour de Steamboat in a few days, 116 miles on pavement. Then in September, I'll put gravel wheels/tires on and ride Rebecca's Private Idaho, 100 miles of gravel.

Since I've only been back to riding for the past 7 years, most of my centuries were done with my 2012 Colnago ACE. It's more of rando bike than a race bike and I never got tired riding it. Since getting my 2017 Colnago C-RS, I done one century and it handled the ride almost as good as the ACE but it's more of a racing bike.

Pretty new to long days on the saddle (did my first 40+ mile ride just over a year ago after years of commuting) but I'm happy to have grabbed this guy and put a few centuries under it's belt. One of which was going around Greenlake in Seattle 36 times

Any recommendations for better tires for long day rides?

Also excuse the weird photo quality- I playing with my phone's camera a little much

What's the maximum tire width for this frame? On longer rides you'll appreciate the increase in comfort from wider tires run at lower pressure. If you can fit 25 or 28 mm tires, go for it.

I can definitely fit 25s, and yeah 28s would be sweet but I have yet to test them out. I grabbed these because I was under the assumption that 23s were "faster" and that gatorskins were the gold standard. I've obviously learned otherwise. Recommendations for brands that are fairly anti-puncture but still promote good rolling?

This is what I've been riding lately, some 3500 km of randonneuring and almost as much other riding. It's a heavily modified Holdsworth from the mid 1970's. Not perfect, but all in all I'm happy with it; I have no plans to upgrade.

For all the gory details there is this other thread:

Now I can add this one to the list. I did the Antelope Lake 600k out of Davis, CA this weekend on my Soma Smoothie. This is a pic someone else took at a control stop and the only picture I have of this bike.

Is anyone riding half centuries or longer on a flat-bar bike? Since I had extensive shoulder surgery long rides on my road bike are painful. I have put a shorter, higher-rise stem but I'm still in a more aggressive, forward position. When cruising around on my flat-bar fitness bike, it's a more comfortable riding position. Not sure that the upright, one-hand-position riding style works for longer rides, though.

Feedback, anyone? TIA.

I've used my Sublime for all of my 100-150 mile rides. I'll be using it this summer for my double, unless the weather is pants and then I'll go for the bike with disc brakes.

In December when these were on sale for $899, I couldn't resist. I've been resisting disk brakes for years, but I rode in enough rain last year that I became curious.

A few minor changes were required; shorter crank arms, dynamo hub and lights, front rack, fenders, different saddle. I was expecting it to have a fairly harsh ride, assuming the fork made for disc brake would be unforgiving and harsh. At this point, 575 miles ridden, I'd have to say it rides as expected. But maybe it's the stock tires.

I'm a little surprised you think it's harsh with such big tires, but I am totally oblivious to such things. That's quite a project. Looks like it will be a good bike for the next time you try to ride a 600k in cold, pouring rain. I hadn't previously appreciated that fork. Making a fork like that for my gravel bike is on the project list.

I'm pretty fond of gravelking tires. Looks like they have a 44mm 650b version.

To be fair, it is really hard to tell (1) what's real and what's imagined, (2) what's the fork and what's the tire, (3) what's the bike and what's the weather, (4) what's the weather and what did I have for dinner last night, (n) etc.. I haven't yet ridden this bike in nice weather, obviously.

I have bought a pair of 48 mm Pari-Moto tires that I will switch in when the road conditions improve. They are lighter than these WTB's. I have Pari-Moto's (38 rear, 42 front; though they are almost exactly the same size) on my Holdsworth, and I like them well enough; so maybe putting a 'familiar' tire on this one will give me some frame of reference.

I really like the Compass Rat Trap Pass tires on my Squarebuilt, and if I stick with this wheel size I'll doubtless try the Compass Switchback Hill (650x48b) at some point. But I am pretty much resolved if I damage these rims, I will replace them with 26" rims that allow even wider tires.

Disc brakes. I don't know why I bother, all they do is slow me down.

Seriously, I dunno. Tektro something or other. Not hydraulic, that much I can tell you.

if the brakes don't stop you, something will. On the cold, rainy 600k I mentioned above, there was one hill where I couldn't stop so I had to ride at speed through calf deep water next to a car that had inexplicably stopped under a railroad bridge (hoping to crack their engine block?). It was barely wide enough for me to get through without hitting them or the bridge abutment. My lack of wet braking really slowed me down a lot on that ride, there are a lot of steep downhills and I refuse to ride out of control.

I really think that's a horrible course even when it's not flooded for the first 20 hours and I had resolved to never ride it again. But then I dnf'd another 600k and needed one to qualify for later rides, so I did it anyway.

Here's my 1987 Davidson Discovery that I rode for Eroica CA (long route, ~108 miles):

And here's my Landshark that's I've ridden for my 200/300/400 brevets this year:
