I really can't afford a PM yet. It's more than twice the cost of my bike!

That has nothing to do with easy rides unless you're implying that you don't understand the difference between various levels of intensity and need a power meter to tell you.

I still need to get the video out for a second opinion. Might be in a day or two. I have other parts that will arrive soon (to modify riding position). I might decide to wait for those first.

Well they're different things, aren't they? Accelerating from a stop is physiologically different from holding a steady output over a long period of time. They're different forms of training. Repeatedly stopping and taking off again is a simple form of interval training.
And as you're only doing an hour at a time, you should be doing intervals interspersed with Z1/Z2 days. Or you're never going to build any muscle, you're just going to keep breaking it down.

I'm actually doing 2 to 3 hours. 1 hour outdoor on the bike and 1 to 2 hrs indoor on the trainer. I do less intensity on the trainer indoors. ~80% Maximum heart rate.

If you are doing 1 hour outdoor rides at 80%-90% then it is pointless to do more hard rides on your indoor trainer. Try doing an uninterrupted 2 hour indoor trainer ride at a steady intensity of around 60%-70% instead of 80%..

I break my indoor rides down to 30 minutes each. I can't do it continuously due to work. Options are quite limited and been trying experimenting around and see what works.

don't know, but would love to ride without having to stop or brake for an hour or three
