I found your pic interesting as I too have an 85. I posted it a few years ago and haven’t ridden it much or serviced it yet. Reason I am posting is mine also has the aero brake levers and the short stem. Discussion from before said they had been changed as the levers were from an 86. Mine is the 58cm frame and it seemed quite stock, but I figured there were more knowledge folks here. Mine had some tri bars on it so I assumed the change was made to not have cables in the way. I will be curious as to the originality of yours. Pretty color scheme that year.
For yours having tri bars i would suspect that yeah they changed the brake levers when they put the Tri bars on. not sure how well a non aero brake lever would function with Tri bars.

Yep
My 85 was also updated to Aero Levers they were Aero Gran Compe's they should be non Aero Shimano 600 levers (which it will be going back to) the rear derailleur was also changed to a 600 tricolor. the bars and stem were also changed, the bars were newer 2000'ish era bars. The Aero levers were a common change when they came out in 1986ish. it was the thing to do.

Finally found time to finish my MV. I got a set of yellow Jagwire housing /cable for my MV, but it’s too light a yellow, not a good match:

I returned the yellow set and got a Lavender/purple set. That turns out to be a very good match with the Bike’s magenta color!

Here it is. Bike finished (?)- 13-28 7 sp Sunrace freewheel shifted with Sora ST 3300 brifters, 105 FD1056 . 42/52 Biopace SG chain rings. Cannondale 25.4mm carbon seatpost with Fizik Aliante seat. Easton 26.0mm carbon drop bar on an Origin8 stem.

Too bad the pink Selle Italia Smootape doesn’t quite match the magenta color. Anyone has magenta bar tape that is a good match with the frame?

Perhaps bar wrap in yellow would be easier to match.
Also, I think the yellow bar tape would give (in the words of R.T.) better aesthetics Balance.

Still room for these 87s? My wife and I picked these up within a week of each other. My wife still has hers but with 7700.

I'm interested in the bottle cage. Is it a good a match for the magenta as it appears in the picture? If so, do you know the brand?

Where I'm at in the '83 Centurion TA?
Well, after RTs ban I felt the wind was let out of my sails and just had the frame sitting in the stand.
I'm finally slowly getting over it and starting the build.
So the build, a beautiful red color, and small 52cm frame. I comfortably ride a 54cm and my favorite Ironman road bike is a 52cm, so it'll work.
I initially thought I'd use a full tri color 7 speed group. However the HS that R.T. sent with it was the Shimano 600 and it's silver looking and not the gray looking that comes on the Shimano tricolor 600. And I like the way the silver looked on there against that nice red.
Remembering the parts I pulled from my '85 Ironman had most of the original 600 parts I decided to go with those 600 parts instead.
Two issues I'm having is, although I have the original '85 brake levers I don't have the original calipers. I may be forced to use the tri color Brakeset if I can't find some . Also, I'm using the '85 Ironmans down tube shifters which fit perfectly on the Shimano type A shifter boss But I don't have any 4.5mm screws. If I can't source them, I'll go therccardr route and dremel to fit and tap to 5mm, and go to full Shimano tricolor group. The simplest fix is to get some 4.5 screws.
One last thing, if someone has a '85 Ironman, can you post a Close-up pic of the OEM rear derailleur shot from behind. Alrighty then Ironkids, hang in there.

I prolly have some 4.5mm mounting bolts. Let me know how long they have to be, as they came in several sizes.

Worse comes to worse, you can source those screws from Loose Screws. Don't go through their website; their eBay store has free shipping.

If you don't need the flange on these, just put them upside down in a vice and tap with a hammer to remove the screw,
