How well have you all taught me?

https://denver.craigslist.org/bik/5609985362.html

So I click on this ad for a "mid seventies trek 531". This makes no sense until I realize the seller is probably looking at a Reynolds sticker and thinking this is the model. Now I'm curious, what is this bike? I could email the seller, but I don't really plan on buying it so I won't. Instead I'll use the three crappy pictures, the resources I've learned of here and make a guess. Color, graphics ahs 531 lead me to a 1983 600 model.

Anyone care to check my work?

I had '83 Trek 600 in that color with those decals with 531 main tubes. Nice bike.

Haven't taught you well enough, apparently. Too much typing, not enough running to buy for ~$200.
(But yeah, you seem to have spotted a well-camoflaged gem amongst the usual CL horrors.)

Did they make 700 series bikes in that color that year as well?

Brakes look like replacements to dual-pivots. May mean that the wheels have been converted to 700c.

The Brian Wilkins' bike is way cooler. Buy that one.

The rather distant, non-drive side pictures make precise identification difficult, but the two-tone paint suggests mid-80s production rather than 70s the seller claims. My guess would be a 6nn series frame. If you can get a serial number from the seller, you can look it up on vintage-trek.com

No 700 model in that year/color.

And yeah, I want that Wilkins so badly it hurts but I'm budget conscious, just went from four to six cycles in a short period and have nothing to sell off to offset the price. I might ask my wife her opinion. She is a more profligate spender than I.
