Simon Yates New World Order

Can Simon Yates be the next “Big Thing”. He came close to winning two tours. With the win of Thomas, can there be a changing of the guard?

Cycling and Champions are always revolving. S. Yates has been proving himself as a strong competitor for a while now. As he matures, he has become a force on two wheels. I don't think this will be his last grand tour win with more to come.

That seems very possible. It's a climbers course and so Sagan's unprecedented 3 year reign seems about to end. I read here that Valverde is the bookmakers' favorite, but he seemed to be fading at the end of last week and Yates remained strong. If I were in a position to place a bet, I'd say Yates is a favorite.

But after the Vuelta, it seems like this sub-forum will largely clear out? Are people out there going to follow the UCI worlds? Maybe I'll start a thread and see.

Vuelta...Yates rode a great race against the competition. Everyone knows SKY is a beast team. They sent IMO maybe a B- team to the Vuelta.

I would suggest two things based on experience...his total implosion at the Giro was really due to getting beat up by better teams. If teams show up with A squads, he will be in there for sure, but to me it would be an upset for him to beat riders with stronger teams.

I was impressed with his stage 20 ride. Never panicked. Rode solid.

I've been wrong before. Personally I love the Vuelta because it is unpredictable and the course is a brute.

Yeah - their options were limited after Bernal crashed and got injured. It would have been great to see Yates go up against him.
