I've had dogs run under my front wheel several times. No bites (yet). I've been thinking about them more as I am no longer strong enough to outrun the faster ones.

Fun story - I was once chased by a whippet. I was going downhill at my prime as a bike racer. On my race bike, sewups. It was sitting on the front steps of a house with a large front yard. Saw me as I passed the walk. It was about 10 feet behind me when I hit the property line. Beside me a couple of pedal strokes later. Paced me down the hill, never barking, growling or making any move to do anything but pace me. Very humbling. I was going flat out. We both knew he could have surged ahead to cross any "finish line" ahead of me. We got to the hill bottom, he pulled up, turned around and trotted home. Job done. (It was 15 years before I learned what that rocket was.)

I usually just yell, "HEY!" as loud as I can. Usually works. Kinda.

Sabre Red Pepper Gel

https://www.sabrered.com/pepper-spra...p-belt-holster

This is OC pepper spray, extremely effective and does no permanent harm to the animal. County animal control suggested it to me and I carry it on every ride.
