2018 Goal / YTD

This thread got me to thinking, which lead to checking out my totals for the past 26 months. Why 26 months? Well...
2016
July 1st. Did my first bike commute in 20 years; only rode to work a handful of times back in '98 or '99.
Total for 2016: 475 miles (total, not just commuting)
2017: 1640 miles
2018 YTD: 1520 miles, will probably hit 2000.
GOALS?? None. Or at least mostly*. I have found that focusing on how I want to feel has lead to more miles, slightly faster riding, n+1(+1), and overall being happier.
What those statistics miss is that I have really focused on trying for consistency, so I had some goals over the past 2 years, but the goal was 20+ days per month, of at least 30 minutes a day; anything more was optional. Each year, I've attempted to do the same, but just starting earlier, and ending later in the year.
By that standard, I had 2.5 months in 2016 (10 days in first half of September), 5 months in 2017, and 4 months (and counting) in 2018. I'd like to get at least 6 months this year, and hopefully find something that I enjoy for the colder months as well.

Goal was about 2600 miles this year. I'm around 1700 now. Didn't get as many commutes to work as I thought since Socal got stupid hot in June and July with 110+ degree days. Also missing a few of my usual weekend shop rides since my wife and I are doing hikes with a new group some Saturdays. Getting more surfing done this summer too that takes some bike time. (yeah, surfin'......I'll be 65 in November.)

Well, we're getting down to crunch time on the annual riding goals, with a little less than 2 months left.
Per Strava, I'm up to 6,699.9 miles out of a 7300 mile goal. I haven't been riding as much over the last few months, but aching knees have reminded me that my body does better if I ride at least 4 to 5 days a week.
So, 600.1` miles left to go should be pretty easy for 2 months, although I'll have to expect a few wetter rides. And, we've had a few foggy mornings lately.
I haven't been big on New Years resolutions, but I've been thinking a bit about next year's riding goals. I think I'll do things a bit different next year. For example I'd like to conquer the "morning after" blues. So, perhaps make a goal of say 500 miles in 3 days. Also work a bit more on speed and faster long distance endurance.

I'm chasing a RUSA 5000km award. I'm currently at 4270km. I have 8 weekends left to do permanents that count towards this award. So even though it is currently 19 degrees with snow on the grass, I'm heading out in a couple of hours to ride my permanent to get another 100km knocked out. Plan to do the same tomorrow.
Fingers crossed for some rideable weather in December. A road trip to get my 200km to continue my pursuit of an R-12 (12 consecutive months of a 200km perm or brevet) is certainly possible. I have 10 consecutive months as I was able to do a 200km last weekend.

5,248 miles so far this year. My goal was over 7,000. I lost over a month off the bike due lumbar spinal stenosis in January and a bad virus in May and June.

Goal for the year was 2000 miles. Am now up to 2250, thanks to a ride on the Katy Trail in May.

It sounds like fun.
Almost all of my rides are commutes of one sort or another, although a few of them were quite long commutes. 300km?
I'm not sure about the "permanent" idea. It seems like I tend to vary my route every time, either taking a shortcut or a longcut. Although, perhaps one could say that I have some core routes that I like, and vary somewhat from one to another.

Of the 33 permanents and brevets that I have done thus far in 2018, 27 are unique routes. There are only 2 permanents that I've ridden multiple times. Both of those are ones where I can just ride to the start from my house. I've ridden in 12 different states this year. I do like variety!

I started in August of this year after a 15yr layoff due to multiple back surgeries. It was hell starting back up with the pain....So far I have done 1466 miles within the 3 1/2 months. I'd like to break 2000 by the end of the calendar year but it may be a tall order.

Well, officially 7,680 miles, average > 21 miles a day.
Goal was 7,300 miles, 20 miles a day.
Mostly commuting/errands/utility riding. But... some days I go pretty far.
No specific "century" goal. However, I had a mix of Metrics and Centuries.
Jan 31, 65 miles, Metric C
Feb 23, 162 miles. Eugene to Portland. Late start, so counted some miles with Velocult ride the next day up to 24 hrs.
March 3, 161 miles, Portland back to Eugene.
April 3, 70 miles, here and there around Eugene, Metric C
April 18, 65 miles, bikeshare rollout, plus some riding.
April 22, 74 miles. Hmmm?? I think I went shopping, then back home to get a trailer, and out again... maybe???
May 23, 68 miles. Bunch of climbing.
May 26, 95.6 miles. Bunch more climbing. I think Strava had some kind of a climbing challenge I was working on.
4th of July, 70 miles, Went to visit some of Moms friends on the other side of one of the tallest local hills. Then did some "playing" on that hill. Bunch of climbing. 54.1 MPH descent. Broke two spokes with powered descents. I have to wonder if I was putting out some power with attempting to not spin out at 50+ MPH.
August 8, 157 miles to Portland.
August 15, 160 miles back from Portland.
August 31, 90 miles of lots of climbing, trying to hit climbing goals for the month.
September 29, 187 miles. Eugene to Salem and back towing a trailer to pick up a battered bike frame.
October 25. 170 miles to Portland. Late Start, Realized that I had forgotten my wallet 15 miles from home, and had to backtrack, so 30 miles wasted.
October 30, 141 miles back from Portland to Eugene.
November 25, 200 miles headed to Salem and back to pick up another bike trailer. My first tubeless flat, and had lots of issues. Plus, late start and got TIRED. Ended up doing double century in about 30 hours.
Whew!!!

My goal was 2,500 miles. Then my left knee decided to become very cranky (arthritis) in April and I had to stop running and fitness walking. Instead I did more biking, a lot more biking. I ended up with 4,662 miles for the year!
The month with the third highest mileage was November. When you consider I live in northern Illinois and we had a colder than normal November, I find that pretty amazing. July then May were my top 2 months.

Goal was 3000 mi ,
Almost made it
...
Got almost 2600,
2571, (but have a few rides not logged)
Of the 4 years I’ve been riding,
best year so far.

Goal was 3,000. Ended up with a bit over 3,600. I retired in August, which definitely allowed me to ride more. I do miss commuting to and from work, though. It was the best part of the work day.
