His backwards flop'n'chop bars are flat, with a useless downturned bit instead.

I've goofed around with backwards handlebars in the past, and I've also put old roadster handlebars on. I know what works and what doesn't and I'm pleased to tell you, forums poster pcf, that your idea is neither new or good. Good ideas stick around. Bad ones are perpetually rediscovered and dumped.

I screwed around for a few days with my bikes like that. It was fun but ultimately not practical. The steering was weird and made things awkward.

So for the past month or so I've been riding with these handlebars, I see no downside to them at all. Did a 26 mile ride on Wisconsin's great Glacial Drumlin trail yesterday, no numbness in the hands or other issues.
The more upright position these bars offer make for a more pleasant riding experience for an old guy like me.

To be fair, 26 miles isn't far enough (for me) to know if something will be comfortable for much longer distances.
I can ride almost anything a short distance and not complain too much.
8 to 10 hours of continuous ride time is far more suitable for judging comfort.

I like it. In the past I've eyed bullhorn bars as a way to satisfy my preference for an upright riding posture, though it's been just as easy for me to install swept bars. But I'm glad you're doing the experiment.

False. He's posting in a bike forum. Not only that, but he went out of his way to create a brand new post (there are pre-existing threads for posting bikes, ride pics, etc.) specifically to highlight his non-standard handlebar setup in a forum dedicated to discussing and evaluating bikes.
If he were RIDING his bike, as you say, none of us would pull him aside to say anything about his bars.

I don't get this at all. The bars are installed backwards. That just shows me that the OP doesn't know what he is doing. Then people come on here and defend him. Seriously. The guy installed his bars backwards and thinks that it is great and rides around like this. Thread and bike belong in the JA thread.
