cpl small storms, then a blizzard. lot's of nasty snow & ice, but with warm temps this week, plus a deluge of rain on the way, we should have a chance to re-assess & plan ahead

Yep...the January Thaw is underway here. One guy already lost his snowmobile in the river (fortunately, he was okay!)

Snow is going to dump west of here, but we're getting rain, then a return of the deep freeze. That should make things interesting.

Well, don’t get too confident in that January thaw sticking around. It was -9 F here last Thursday morning, right now 42, tomorrow around noon going to 56, so they say. And by 4 am Friday, freezing rain, sleet, and snow. Then a balmy 12 for Saturday’s high temp. Usually our weather here today is tomorrow’s weather in Eastern PA and NY, CT, RI, MA.

Wokeup at 3:45am this morning to my son talking in his crib, thought I'd get the day going. The weather was 40F, 12mph wind and some drizzle.

Now it's 30F and 24mph wind, just an hour later!!

By 9am this morning the reset will be in full swing when it's predicated to be 16F and snowing with 20mph+ winds!

Good grief gotta love the plains!

lol yeah, been eyeballing that forecast. my day off is Saturday, tonight would be good for a night ride, but I need to rake my roof before the deluge. rain Saturday but it might turn to sleet. knowing me I'd get a late start in time for the sleet storm

Here in coastal RI our high today (1/10/2018) is near 50°F. I may go to the beach;-) Seriously, today will be clear so I think I'll get another ride in. Rain sets in late tonight/early tomorrow, and will be even warmer. The flooding from snow melt, and rain will make riding conditions...not fun! I'll find other activities until better weather.

Saw two roadies today. There were totally coating themselves and their bikes with heavily salted water. I was tempted, but did not ride. Not even a bike with fenders.

this time of year I try to stay off road. been thinking about a nature preserve near me w unpaved trails. thinking the snow pack & ice will either be gone or minimal (Saturday) so that my 40mm studded tires will be perfect

Well, winter returned here in western Wisconsin. The snow did not miss us as predicted, which is nice, because snow is more fun than ice. Back below 0F we go...

Yes we got lucky here, there was a surprising bit of rain first early but it quit as the temperature plummeted. It managed to dry up slightly before the snow hit. Tomorrow I try the unpaved ungroomed nature overlook trail and see what that's like, crusty snow with another two inches ontop.

It was great while it lasted, 58 when I left work Thursday evening. Near white out conditions during the Friday am drive. Clear now, 6 degrees with -8 windchill.

But hey, January is almost 1/2 over- seasons seem to go faster the older you get.

yeah big swings. Friday almost 60F then Saturday 30F & this morning 23F. Saturday got some backyard cleanup shores done, that I didn't finish before the initial burst of winter. closed everything back up, but not before getting in a frosty 30F 13 mile ride in, before the deep freeze came back

We went thru the same conditions as you all did here in NW Pa. The teens and single digits for a couple weeks, a bunch of snow...then the fast thaw. We got some minor flooding in our area. French Creek was over it's banks in most spots. Our barn flooded a bit but luckily not too bad. At least the chickens stayed dry.

Now we're back to mid teens and about 8" of snow. At least the road is froze and isn't all mud.

oh fine, no problem w the studded tires. but it was bumpy, so it was good that I had aired down the tires a week ago. ran the sportcam on the bars but it was so bumpy most of the footage is disturbing to watch. brought the helmet mount, but was too lazy to switch it

I'd have to "make" myself use the bridgeway there. There's just something about mud puddles....😁
