Recumbent What IS that thing?! Recumbents may be odd looking, but they have many advantages over a "wedgie" bicycle. Discuss the in's and out's recumbent lifestyle in the recumbent forum.

New R-Trike Rider

On the 24th. my new Sunseeker Eco-Tad SX Trike will be ready to roll! It will be my first trike and with the difference in price between DF and R-Trike I needed to purchase a entry-level machine. I rode the TerraTrike Rover but liked the Sunseeker Eco-Tad better. Hopefully in the next couple of months I'll add a Patterson 2 speed drive unit for a bit more low and high gearing but for now, I will just get use to the 7-speed gearing set up that comes stock. Lucky for me it's about the same gearing as middle gear of my DF, Del Sol Lxi 6.1 26in. Comfort Bike so I'm use to the steps, LOL, will take a bit to get back to "recumbent legs"! I've owned 2 Recumbent bikes before a Sun EZ-1 SX, then a really sweet Sun EZ-Sport AX but at 60+ thought it was time to get a R-Trike a go!

Looks like a great trike for the price. The Utah Trike promo video was a bit corny, though. I'm looking forward to seeing how you like it.

I'm missing something -- Is an R-Trike a specific model of something?

It stands for recumbent. Some people here throw a hissy fit when you mention recumbents or trikes. That in the face of the fact that bents and trikes solve many problems with pains, and allow many with some disabilities to ride.

On the Recumbent subforum? Do we need to ask the mods to change the name to R-Bikes and R-Trikes to somehow avoid that?

It's a weird term. Never heard that used before. Good communication demands vocabulary that is understood by the intended audience. This concludes this public service announcement.

I don't think it was used as a recognized term. I'm guessing that the O(riginal) P(oster) just didn't want to type out all the letters after R.

As to the other matter: Not sure whether Rydabent was talking about HFs on just the RF or on the entire BF.

Most important: @bjjoondo, did you receive your trike yet? Let us know how it's going.

LOL, ok, I admit I like to shorten things so I'll be better and use the proper terms from now on! Yes, I did get the trike and now have 25 miles on it! It's a lot of FUN, I'm learning to "relax the upper body" and use light pressure on the bars! My "pedal steering" has gotten much smoother, got on the flag, the rear rack, lights front and rear, etc. and of course "Pedal Straps" to keep from getting Heel Suck!! PS: Being only a "7 speed", and 12 lbs. heavier than my former DF Del Sol LXi 6.1 (26 inch) Comfort bicycle, it's taking a bit more work to get my "recumbent legs" back up to full strength! It's gearing is spaced pretty good and I like the 32 for hills on the cassette! I will either have a Patterson metropolis 2-speed drive added or see if I can change it to a 8 speed with a 34 for the hills. I hope to have my wife on a new Eco-Tad SX "recumbent trike" by mid-March so we both will be "BENT", LOL! Now If we can finally hit a PowerBall or a Mega-Million win, we will be getting a "Recumbent Trike Tandem", a Terra Trike Pro Tandem would be really SWEET but it's OUCH, $6,000 dollars!!! Might be cheaper to just add "electric assist" to her trike for hills!

Make sure your wife's trike is red, too, so that she will have a chance to come close to matching your speeds. (Red bikes/trikes are faster.)

Well I was suppose to get a "BLUE" one but they were out of stock in that color for 3-4 weeks, so I got the RED one and now she's getting the BLUE one! I'm just sooooo happy to get a different color than BLACK or GREY, that all my last few DF bikes have come in for my model and frame size!!

You might have to throw her a tow rope to keep up with the red trike.

Decided to put on a set of "clip-in" pedals, Crank Brothers Candy 1's, LOL, gona take a bit to get to a rapid click in! Also made a taller flag pole and put it in the middle of the chair back, much better!

Click in and click out on a trike are non issues. Take as long as it takes. No awkward starts, no Arti Johnson stops and no wondering if you are going to make it to the top of a hill without having to put a foot down.
