I have no idea what to make of this, a Cinelli MTB?

https://minneapolis.craigslist.org/bik/558358563.html

There's nothing to find on the net...except apparently Gary Fisher made a Cinelli MTB for 1 year. This was pre-trek. But that bike had a different model name and was only offered in red. I saw a photo of another bike that had odd painting done on the seat tube. I can't tell if it's the same stuff.

https://www.firstflightbikes.com/CinelliATB.html

Anyway, Out of the three models I was able to track down, none of them seem to be this one, and a search under tiaramlou turns up nothing, although it looks like a misprint to me.

What are your thoughts on it? I think the seller is up on his bikes from the way he talks, and he has campy hubs on some mavic rims in a different ad. I thought this was rattle can painted, but if it's a big bike, the cinelli headbadge looks to be positioned right.

Can you turn a fixie back into a normal bike?

There are some oddball Cinellis out there. Looks like a deal for $100.

I bought a Cinelli Tamputucco (I think that's how it was spelled) for a girl I know last year. Tretubi Columbus Cromor, red all through with a really great decal set,a Mayan party scene, very much like this one. Full Deore DX and actually pretty light. Handled more like a road bike than a mountain bike, despite slack angles. Taiwan made, again if I remember correctly.

If I had an extra hundred for speculating, I'd definitely buy this as it's so rare, it just has to be worth a fortune.

Yeah, that's a nice one, he is on my favorite sellers list. He also has an Olimpio Bizzi team Bianchi bike but I don't think that will be on ebay any time soon.

FWIW, Cinelli claims to be the first producer of mountain bikes in Europe.

(RE: Cinelli MTB) I guess I'm going to go pick it up in about an hour.

I have a weakness for the very strange...

I talked for quite a while with him on the phone. He's an artist who kind of looks at bikes like art, although he does some riding, too. He does a lot of stripping down of frames and repainting them, and then making fixies out of them. This frame was given to him in a trade by a messenger friend, and he had plans of stripping it but never got around to it. I figure it's worth the money just to save the paint job and decals (whatever the heck that is on the bike!).

I'll post photos when I get back.

Close ups would be cool! Are you going to be able to ride it yourself?

Yes, it's my size...

I really don't know what to make of it, to be honest. It's not the kind of bike I'm usually drawn to.

I'm going to talk to him about keeping my number in case he gets any old vintage bikes that might be better left untouched. I don't think historical value is going to mean much, but I'll try and think of a different angle once I talk to him a bit more. I'm going to his studio, where all the bikes are. He seems like a really nice guy, so I'm sure we'll stay in contact. We're somewhat in the same field.

OK, I'm willing to suspend my cynicism and imagine that it/they might be real, but here's what appears to be the same bike, mysteriously transported from Poland to Chicago. I'm just saying.

Shameless self promotion warning.

https://eugene.craigslist.org/bik/560758400.html

It's a bike that I wanted to restore and hang on the wall, BUT the wife wouldn't even let it in the door. I've had it for ten years now and it's time for the bike to find a good home. Local pick up only, please.

Less painful? Yep. However the bike was just sold/picked up less then one hour after posting it. The wife is happy and that's a good thing. Right? There will always be another one out there..... The bike, the bike!

Oh, that does have a lot of appeal! Any idea how hard it would be to get tyres for those wheels? Doesn't look as if that would be a problem, actually...
