This, the name is even cool. I would have a magnus bonus every time I rode.

I really wanted a Gios Torino. Back when the importer was in Chicago IIRC. I ordered and returned three framesets because they were seemingly unable to send one my size that was not already finished with chipped paint. Most disappointing.

My brother had a Rigi and a Colnago Mexico and sold them both. Take a guess how he feels about that theses days.

I've now decided to be happy with what I'm fortunate enough to have.

Interesting point, and with that Chevy and Porsche you are probably right. But I happen to like old rear wheel drive Alfa Romeos, and they still outperform many a modern car. Because of the tactile feedback and great balance they're easy to drive on the limit and combined with a useful power-to-weight ratio (because of the low weight) they're still very quick, especially on our narrow and winding European roads.

How that translates to bikes I'm not entirely sure. Maybe it's the gear changing. The old Alfa gear gearboxes are a bit like Campagnolo NR, I suppose.

Beautiful. I would love one in orange like that. The blue 1978 pic I posted is from ebay; the bike is $899 + $320 shipping, from ROMANIA. Not entirely comfortable with that! Anyone have any experience buying any of these great bikes that seem to be all over Poland, Romania, Hungary, etc., hahaha?

I have quiet a bit experience buying bikes in Poland But from my experience, bikes that are listed on ebay, even if from Poland, are not cheap.

About that Orange Miyata:
https://www.ebay.pl/itm/172223477520

This frame is something I'm longing after!

Funny, here's another, also 58cm, but seems to be a different seller:

This one is located in Poland, it's priced better but there's huge paint chip near the head tube on the down tube.

The one I've posted above is located in Holland, it's pricy and its in VGC.

Also they are different year model.

I get your point however that is why I had to go as far back as the porsche 356. 0-60 times in the ten second range. I have a Porsche 911 and prefer that over front wheel drive cars. I think you grasp the point that I dont have a stable of vintage bikes for their handling per say. It's all in the style.

I think I saw my grail bike today. Stopped by the LBS. One of the mechanics has his pink Paramount at the shop. So, so nice. Crazy story, but one of the mechanic's customers gave it to him. It was in appreciation for all the hard work the mechanic had done for the customer over the years......true story

First one is a Racycle, famous for their oversized chainrings. Second one is a Pierce chinless bike, shaft driven. Both are around 1910.

The Pierce is amazing, looks very modern for a vintage bike. IMHO these examples are what really constitutes grail status. I think grail status for a lot of bikes in this thread is a misnomer, although probably politically incorrect I think a "10" status is more appropriate for most of these bikes. Grail, IMHO, = unobtainium.

This is the one that got me started, Craigslist find for $300. 1895 wood rim bike, unknown maker. With over 3,000 bike makers during that time if it didn't have a headbadge it was almost impossible to figure it out.

Nice find at a great price, very cool and complete bike. I learned the hard way to find complete bikes if possible, tracking down parts for vintage bikes of that era can be difficult.

Bought mine from Grady a few weeks ago; Chris Kvale. No pictures quite yet but I'm sure most here have seen gomango's.

I've nearly got my collection of grails all but sewn up right now. Chris Kvale, Tommasini Super Prestige, Colnago Super, and Eddy Merckx Professional. Granted, the latter two need to be completed with the Merckx not being close at this point.
