Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Wool PI cycling socks. A cycling ornament. An iPhone 5 (already using it) which has way better battery life than my 3GS. I can get 2-3 hours of Strava recording out it easy.

Rowan and I gave each other that trip, and it started on June 20, 2012. We've been travelling ever since. Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, England, Scotland, The Netherlands, Germany, Luxembourg, Switzerland, France, Canada (Alberta & BC), US (Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, Utah, Colorado, Oklahoma, Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Florida, New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada, California, Oregon, and Washington) ... we're back in Canada again till mid-January, and then it's onward to the western side of Australia.

And we've cycled most places we've visited. Our Thorn touring bicycles have been with us the whole way.

It's kind of our Christmas, Anniversary, and Birthday presents all rolled into one.

New shoes! My old Shimanos were in dire need of retirement.

I love that Cat-5 case, that was previously posted as well. I'm not sure whether to pick up that or a repair stand next...

Pcad's specific comments aren't what makes him bitter. It's that he insists on bringing them up repeatedly in contexts where they are not appropriate. Like in this case, when somebody on christmas was happy with a calendar of vintage bikes. This wasn't a discussion on frame materials and his comments served no purpose other than to piss on somebody else's parade. The move a bitter person.

I can argue with them. I currently own steel, AL and carbon framed bikes have owned Ti. When properly fitted all ride well. But in my case the steel did and does still my needs as well as anything, and better then the Ti did.

And there really is no point in comparing a modern bike of any material with a vintage bike with period components. Technology has advanced in all materials, including steel, and when similarly equipped they perform well.

You're giving this place too much thought. If you want to stay sane, the key is to not pay attention but post anyway.

Park truing stand (the fancy one)
dishing gauge
new spoke wrenches
nice cold weather base layer
bolle transitional specs (I forget the model)
Galaxy Note 2 (Yes, I wish they were larger... LOL)
and of course, the go ahead to build up some new wheels as part of the first 3 items.

I spent most of today cleaning up my bike from yesterday's 3-flat rainy ride, putting on a new tire, truing the wheels etc... then got into installing my young man's "some assembly required" items (still going with the spot lights in the backyard).

A good day, hope you all had a good one too.
