Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I had a brake bleeder explode in my face as 2 of us were handling it. It was stunning how loud it was, not to mention having brake fluid blown under my eyelids at high pressure.
In the hills outside of Placerville, in NorCal in the mid 70s, I saw the flash and heard the sound at the same time. It was round, like the sun. At eye level. I don't know how much time had passed when I picked myself up off the ground.

I haven't had a proper hearing test, but in general I think mine is OK. The problem is I have spells of ringing in the ears, which can be annoying.
My ears are ringing as we speak. There is no such thing as silence anymore.

And, speaking of sweet potatoes, they are in season. My favorite food, in the temperate zone. They are different here, but still a treat when in season. I had two for dinner today.

I have tinnitus myself, but I only notice it when I think about it. So,, of course, I'm noticing the hell out of it right now.

Oh I know all about that addiction.

The cockpit is about a decade old. The laptop is a 7 year old CAD machine with 4th generation i7 and a Quadro FX GPU. The only games on the computer are; Grand Prix Legends (circa 1998), Il-2 1946 (circa 2006), and Zwift. I don’t remember the last time I used the computer for anything other that Zwift, so I wonder why I keep it there and lug it to the garage almost daily for Zwift.

I do want to try the new generation mid-century flight sims and a racing sim or two with VR, though. Hence the hand wringing over newer GPUs.

Add the sink disposal running on top of all that noise! That’s usually what I’m dealing with!

Wow. I was in the gas station where I worked and when the lightning hit the transformer it exploded and caught fire. The fire dept came by and sprayed water on it and left because the storm had them very busy. After a few minutes the flames popped back up and the pole was on fire for some time before the power company showed up. They were able to put it out but the pole was weakened so they clamped it with a huge boom on a truck to hold it overnight.

Is that what damaged your hearing?

Had a strike right outside the house while I was standing at an open window. I didn’t see the actual glowing plasma or whatever it is, but the light was blinding and the noise was indescribable, if not quite as loud as the starting cannon, at least from where I was.

My hearing damage is cumulative. Loud concerts and the like. I traveled a lot in Guatemala in the 80s and was heavily into fireworks while there. That certainly contributed. And just old age, I imagine. It's only recently I've noticed the ringing is a full time thing. ¿Quien sabe?

Handing me a carbonated fusion beverage would cause me to toss it in the nearest trash can, unopened. Because it calls itself a carbonated fusion beverage.

That's referred to as selective hearing. Its a defence mechanism developed by the male of the species.

It's a planned trap. when you ask them later why you are visiting the least favoured inlaws, or buying a new kitchen, or agreeing to do some other onerous chore, they can say well I did tell you/ask you ages ago. It's not my fault you weren't listening... And now it's your fault.

The bars he put on are indeed ones with flat tops. I've never ridden with anything other than round. Are they indeed more comfortable? Put differently (I can't remember if anyone said this), has anyone tried them and not liked them? I could have him take them off, since we didn't discuss this before he did it.
Try them , you might like them. If not, you can always change them in 7 or so years when its time for new bar tape.
