On the Eroica rides it is 1987 and older but I think the organizers are loosening that up a bit. To me it is more about the build of the bike . Lugged steel frame pedals with clips and straps, cloth or leather bar tape , at least 28 spokes, and brakes separate from shifters. There are bikes that are vintage ish like Rivendell that have vintage characteristics that definitely exude the vibe of the older bikes. I have heard some folks refer to vintage as something that is no longer in production.

I'm a professional musician/producer and total vintage head. I'm mid 40s and in my mind 'vintage' essentially referred to anything pre-80s (so in 2005, >25 years). Now thats its 2020 I see people referring to 90s stuff as vintage, which I suppose is true by the 25 year designation, but that just seems bizarre to me...aka I'm getting older and the world makes no sense, haha. Following that line of thinking, to me, it seems like vintage SHOULD refer more to things from a 'classic era,' but of course that is in the eye of the beholder. I'll tell ya this, I'm not paying a premium for 90s guitars, drums, or amps...well, I'd buy a Klon or a Memory Man...oh crap, I AM gonna pay for 90s stuff!!! :-)

Vintage is whatever you or anyone else wants to call it.
Lors of discussion in C&V about it.

If you're buying, it's an "old bike"
If you're selling, it's "vintage"
If you ever wanted to know the difference between a fiddle and a violin.... well, it's the same as the difference between old bikes and vintage bikes.
