Keirin is really interesting, I remember reading about American Gibby Hatton doing well on the circuit. I gather that it's a big investment in time/money/adjustment to ride keirin & only a very few international riders could hope to beat the locals anyway.
I liked the Chris Hoy keirin documentary, he notes that as with horse racing there are few spectators vs large # of bettors.

Keirin events are part of international track competitions as well motor paced a few laps to get the riders up to their sprint speeds, then the Dernys pull into the infield ..
