Pair of ~30 year old century Shogun road bikes

Hello,

Great site!

Hoping for appraisal for a pair of vintage Shogun road bikes, 35 years old.

I have 2 Shogun series 400 road bike to appraise please. Purchased by a relative ~ 1985. Used a few times and put into storage. Original everything, tires, grips, everything. shows near new. No tool marks on any bolts, etc as nothing was ever adjusted...

Blue bike is 23" and brown is 25"

I am located in New Hampshire if the region matters, but would be willing to ship regardless.

Comes along with the original Service manuals and receipts / bill of sale... not sure if they add any value.

Pics attached.

Thanks!

I would start by listing them both at $250. Given the condition, it shouldn’t be hard to find an enthusiastic buyer. However, the consumables needing replacement will diminish value. Shoot high and settle for what feels right!

Great condition. In my area, $200-$225 with new tires. That 25" frame is huge and might limit buyers. Sales have begun to drop off, at least here.

I’m $150 to $200 on the high side in my corner of New England. Nice bikes but I just don’t see stem shifters commanding more than $200.

Personally, I wouldn't be able to sell those bikes with the original tires. 35 year old tires are going to fail and, I wouldn't want it on my conscience if somebody experienced a bad crash on a bike I sold them. So, after installing new rim tape, tubes, tires & general service I think you could probably get around $250 each for them. Be good. Have fun.

1985 sounds about right based on the Z-series derailleurs and brakes and two-tone paint. Frames are Tange 900/1000 with Mangaloy forks (on at least the 25" model) and hi-tensile stays. Aluminum 27" rims. These are nice upper entry level models. Original price would have been around $250 US. In ready to ride condition, I can easily imagine the higher valuations in the southern end of the state, within easy driving distance of Boston, but at the northern end you're probably looking at the lower end of the given valuations.

People really underestimate old Shogun bikes. I think they were amazing. And, just like Schwinn and Raleigh the old Shogun brand name still survives to this day. No wonder. People associate brand names with quality & value. Shogun is a name that will appear on bikes for a long time.
