Bluetooth Interference?

I think I'm carrying around too many Bluetooth gadgets! I just got a pair of Aftershoks Titanium bone conduction headphones for riding. I noticed on my first ride that that it dropped out a ton, and I think its all my other Bluetooth stuff on my bike. I have a Wahoo Elemnt Bolt with Bluetooth cadence sensor, speed sensor, and Tickr heart rate sensor. I'm betting all those other sensors are interfering with the audio signal.

Anyone else have this problem?

Nope. I've ridden with even more dual BTLE/ANT+ devices (PowerTap pedals, Varia radar), BT headset (LG Tone Active), and BT smartwatch. The only dropouts I ever had were with my Gamin Edge 520 disconnecting from my phone when using the Varia, which I fixed by getting a Bolt.

I've heard BT interference can happen indoors if you are near a lot of radio signals, but that shouldn't happen riding outdoors. Could be those headphones or your phone that's the problem.

I don't think I get bluetooth interference from my own gadgets, but I do get it in Manhattan from other sources, especially in intersections.

Oh, sure. Depends on the surroundings. At home I need to stay across the room from my PC and TV to get a reliable connection with my Tickr for using my HRV app.

My older ANT+ speed/cadence sensors are less picky than my various Bluetooth devices. But those differences might be due to the quality of the devices rather than something inherent to Bluetooth.

And on the bike some lights can interfere with some devices. That may also depend on the LED refresh/flicker rate. Separating devices as little as another inch or so can help. I use head and taillights on most rides, day and night, so I've had to fiddle around a bit with mounting positions to get everything working together.

Interference probably is not the problem. More likely an app on your phone fighting another app on your phone. Are all your bike sensors and HR paired only to the Wahoo? If not, I'd pair everything bike and HR related to it and not have them paired to the phone.

Though I don't know how Wahoo's work, if they rely on the phone app to do sensor pairing, then that's bizzare IMO. Though other people have more than you, so there is something, likely on your phone, just not playing with others correctly.

You shouldn't have any BTLE interference from the headphones. However, if you continue to have interference and you want to drop some of the BTLE connections, do them on your Wahoo sensors. If you have a cycling app that supports BTLE sensors, forget the sensors on the Bolt and connect them to the cycling app. If you don't have a cycling app to do this with, download the Wahoo Fitness app. Once the sensors are connected to the phone keep the cycling app open and connect your sensors via Ant+ to your Bolt, You can then remove the BTLE sensors from the cycling app to free up those connection. I don't know if this will correct the problem but you can try it if all else fails.
