Carbon rims from China on Ebay - Are they safe?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Carbon rims from China on Ebay - Are they safe?

What do you guys and gals think?

I'm interested in building a wheelset with these to save some money but I have a strong feeling that these are un-safe and/or extremely unreliable. On the other hand, they look freakin awesome.

Has anyone ever had any experience with them?

Some input would be greatly appreciated!

Everything is made in China. Safety is relative.

As for e-bay, I have not had issues with international orders. Don't expect much.

I don't think I would trust those..

I once bought a non-brand name green laser pointer from some company in China through ebay; it was a piece of crap.

Aren't those a bit heavy? 1240g for two rims. You know, they're not full carbon but carbon wrapped aluminum.

These could be nice but I haven't heard any reviews of them. I don't think they're going to explode but at least some feedback, positive or negative would be good.

The weight isn't bad...carbon clinchers built up can easily range around 1600ish grams. Throw spokes and hubs on those ebay rims and you're sitting around 1650-1700g i imagine.

You can see the seem where the carbon wrap joins.

Full carbon clincher rims in the 50mm depth should be 425g~450g each (850g to 900g for the set). These are just deep dish alloy rims with a carbon layer for appearance. I'd suggest just picking up some alloy rims locally at this price point and be done with it.

Why would you get heavy carbon wheels?

That's like being the opposite of Blade

That should steer you away right there, if you feel unsafe with your cycling components. Don't buy garbage that always has you a little worried about catastrophic failure especially when it comes to wheels. Remember wheels are the things that keep you off the ground(as well as from eating asphalt), but that's just my .02

Carbon clinchers are not known to be ultra 'light'...Example: a pair of Zip 808s weigh close to 1900 grams

There are lots of (relatively) inexpensive carbon wheels out there that have been received well by various members of BF. You can search for their opinions. Some of the names that come up a bit are Williams, Psimet, Neuvation and Flit. Others posters can probably remember more of them.

Do you want to be the guy who finds out if they're safe? They might be made in the same factory as other high end carbon wheels, they might be seconds from that factory, or they might be made in a substandard factory out of leftover bits of who knows what. Do you want to be the one to find out when you're decending down a hill at high speed? When they do fail, who can you blame?

They already have:
Mavic's R2R (rim-to-rim) spoke joins opposite rim sides with continuous carbon spokes for smooth integration of rim and hub flange
