Comparing Trek Verve 2 with Giant Cypress
I am looking to purchase a hybrid and have narrowed down to a choice of Trek Verve 2 or Giant Cypress.
This weekend, I am testing both of these bikes on a ride. So far I have just sat on them with the bike store salesman holding the bike upright.
The Verve felt more comfortable in that preliminary test. I was on the 17.5 length. The Giant Cypress I tried was Medium, and was not as comfortable. The Giant store is assembling a small model for a better comparison this weekend.
I will be a in-town rider mostly or city trials. I may take it out on the Katy Trial in MO but this is certainly not off road.
I can and have compared features of each. What I am missing is the impressions of those who have more experience.
Which of the two would you recommend?
Thanks

My wife was recently looking at these exact bikes. The Cypress DX is more comparable to the Verve 2 than the regular Cypress. Other than that, I'd say it's personal preference and fit. My wife ended up going with a Specialized Crossroads, just because it fit her better and was more comfortable to her. You might want to take a test ride on a Specialized, before making a final decision.

Welcome! I agree with the above that it's all about fit and feel in this type of bike. What about the Giant did you find uncomfortable? If you can directly compare the two, and find the Trek more comfortable, then that's probably the one to buy.

Comparing Trek Verve 2 with Giant Cypress
There were two things that were uncomfortable:
1. Seat seems uncomfortable. But I think I could just replace that.
2. The height of the bike. I think it was medium, so I'm going to try the small this weekend. The Verve 2 height was 17.5 inches and that seemed right. Don't know if 17.5 inches compares to Giant medium or small

The seat tube length on a medium Cypress is 18.0", so it's maybe just a little longer than the Verve. Both have similar effective top tubes, at about 23". The Cypress does have a much higher listed standover height (30.8" vs. 28.5" on the Verve), but this type of measurement isn't exactly scientific (different manufacturers may measure it differently.
Yeah, try a small Cypress, but don't force it. If the Verve feels best to you, then listen to your gut! :-)

I probably would try again with the more comparable Giant frame and see if that changes anything. That being said, I bought a Trek Verve 2 back in April and I love it. The only change I've made to it is replacing the stock grips with Ergon grips. I ride mainly on Multi Use Paths, some road and some gravel/dirt trails. I use it for casual rides as well as commuting to work a couple of times a week, about 15 miles round trip. I've not yet found a real negative to the Trek.
I like the more upright riding position due to some lower back problems and find it very comfortable. I am 5'10 and on a 20 frame and fits me really well. There really isn't any suspension on the Verve except that small shock on the seat post so you will feel the bumps a bit more than I would on my Trek 4900 MTB with suspension but nothing that makes me feel out of control when I am riding. I go at a casual pace around 10-12 mph so I'm not really racing anywhere I am going. I've been up around 20 mph on a downhill section of a MUP but on the flats in a middle gear I am around 13 mph. My area is pretty flat so no real steep hills but I do have some climbs and the Verve has plenty of gears to get me up and down.
I've logged quite a few miles since April and have been very happy with my purchase.

Nice choice. I've enjoyed mine since I bought it this past April. Rode it into work this morning and took a few nice rides this weekend with the family as well. Zero issues and I've logged quite a few miles in my short time with it.
